On 10.8.2, my Dvd crashes

I just bought an iMac with 10.8.2 - I've seen that this is a problem with other users - the DVD player crahses as soon as I try to open it. Any suggestions?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.5)

Hello,

Open Console in Utilities & see if there are any clues or repeating messages when opening DVD Player.

I am having this same issue. I can't get any DVDs to play and the included DVD player on my iMac crashes immediatley upon opening. No luck with VLC either.

I checked the console per BDAqua's post but don't see anything. I've also tried repairing disk permissions to no avail.
