Import error on iPad

I have the beginnings of a book created and exported it to a file on the Mac. Then I imported it into iTunes. This worked fine. When I tried to import it to the iPad I get an error message “ not copied because it requires a later version of iBooks”. The Mac is 10.8.2, iBooks Author is 1.1, the iPad2 is running iOS 6, and iBooks is version 2.2. Can someone help?

I am not exactly sure what happened but I have been able to import the test book to the iPad since I renamed the project and saved it as a new file name. Each time import the book into the iPad I get a message "The operation could not be completed. (ATError error 3.)". The book loads and I am able to open it. It appears that all of the content is inplace and working on the iPad. Does anyone know what this message means?
