Iphone 5 using large amounts of cellular data

I personally never had an iPhone before. Before purchasing my iPhone 5, my wife and I together never used more than 2 gigs of data per month. She has the iPhone 4 and i had the original Droid X. Now that I have gotten my iPhone 5 and lost my unlimited data plan with Verizon, my shared data has sky rocketed. I am up to around 1.5 gigs of shared data and my billing cycle doesn't end till October 19th. Am I doing something wrong? Is there a way to adjust settings on the phone without rendering the cellular data useless and making this phone work only on a wifi signal? I should be able to still use my phone as I always have and not use that much more data.

Hi,

you can turn off the cellular data from the settings and use only wifi... is it you are asking buddy or something else??

or you can check in the settings-> itunes & app store that "use mobile data" is off or not. may be that is the case

Many Regards,

I've had a similar problem on my iPhone 4 since upgrading to iOS6. I went online and checked AT&T's website and there are large downloads at times I know I was not on my phone AND the phone should have been on my wireless network (e.g., 12:34am when I was asleep, the phone was off, and I was in my house which has a wireless network that the phone has used for 3 years; another time: when I was in a University classroom, with connected wifi, teaching and the phone was off in my pocket). I wonder if there is a bug in the new OS? By the way, I checked and iTunes "use cellular data" was off.

Any suggestions? How do I elevate this to Apple?

Of course when I called Verizon, they claimed they have never heard of the issue. We had to upgrade our data plan and about a week later Verizon pushed a carrier update that supposedly fixed the supposed non existing issue. If it isn't an issue and Verizon never heard of it than why was there an update sent by them to fix it? I still have to be careful on the data I use. I have to connect to WIFI anytime I can to hopefully not go over my data allowance. I wish I would have realized that Id be using that much more data than I had been. I would have saved my money and bought the phone outright at a later date and kept my unlimited data. Verizon got us good!

I am from Canada and even when I was on military deployment and on my old iphone 3GS (Jan 2010) constantly i never used more than my 1G data limit. Within the first billing cycle on my 5 (I purchased at the end of Sept) I had charged up to $60 worth of extra data... I NEVER use that much data since I am back home I connect on wifi at work when I can, and always at home. I will have to call my provider (bell) and see what they will do. I hope to get a credit back cause its disgusting as a consumer to have to suck up a bill that steep because of an issue with the product. Anyone in Canada had any issues with Bell Mobility re: data over usage and getting a credit for it?
