AirPlay issues in iOS6.0

I was happy user of apple tv's airplay feature until I downloaded iOS6.0 in my iPhone 4S. Any time I want to play music in my TV or Home theater system I always had Airplay icon (the little arrow mark beside the music player's volum bar) available in my iPhone. Now ever since I downloaded iOS6.0, I don't get Airplay icon all the time, I can see apple tv is ON because I can see it in my TV, but still iphone doesn't recognise the apple TV. "Remote" application works as remote though, but that too doesn't show my iphone's music library anymore. To make Airplay work, the only work around sometimes worked is I turn off the wifi in my iPhone and switch it back, and sometime I have to turn off the Airplay feature in AppleTV and switch it back on. which I never used have to do before. I have two iPhone 4S and a Mac with mountain Lion usually on in my network. I would like to know Is any one else facing the same issue? Is this something came with iO6.0 or it could be my network issue?

Any comments from apple?

I am experiencing similar issues since upgrading to ios 6 on my iPhone 4S and iPod touch 4th gen. When I go to AirPlay music, the airplay symbol comes up orange instead of blue. Music does start to play through the receiver via AppleTV, but cuts in and out (like it is have trouble buffering). This does the same thing on both devices on iOS 6. Interstingly enough my iPad on ios 6 works ok - athough it is running on the 5GHZ band on my Dual Band router (I might try turning that band off and force my iPad to use the same band as the iPod and iPhone to isolate that out).

Luckily I still have one device on iOS 5 - an iPhone 3GS. So I tried AirPlaying music with it after the issues experienced above and as you will expect, it works perfectly. AirPlay icon is blue and music streams without issue.

So I reckon I have proved it is an issue that has been introduced with iOS 6 for the iphone 4 and iPod touch. Very annoying because it was one of the key reasons we bought the AppleTV. So now it is rendered all but useless. I did check to see if there was an AppleTV update hoping it would fix the issue, but it was up to date (5.1).

So I placed a support call to Apple on Monday and was on the phone to them for 2 hours. Within 10 minutes I had their senior troubleshooting technician on the phone. We tried a number of things including resetting the network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings), rebooting my router and AppleTV - but to no avail. The outcome is that the issue has now been escalated and is currently being investigated by Apple.

So hopefully it means they will find a bug and release an update with a fix.

Please post if you are experiencing similar issues so we can demonstrate to Apple that this is not an isolated problem - i.e tha it is not signal interference - which i can prove in my circumstance by the pure fact that the iPhone 3Gs on ios 5 works flawlessly.

Thanks.

Thanks Matt, I too had a iPhone 3GS (iOS 5.3) lying around I switched it on and no issues there. AirPlay works perfectly smooth. Icon is always available and no glitches in sound. As u said it confirms that AirPlay issues is been introduced in iOS6 only. Maybe they broke something while making of "ultra fast wifi" feature in iOS6. Desperately waiting for fix from apple now.

Hi just experience the same issue too . Since i updated to IOS6, my itouch 4th gen doesnt show the airplay icon anymore :(. I have also have a itouch 3rd gen which experience the same issue . 1st Ipad still working eventhou has IOS 5.

MBA 2012 with mountain lion is working flawless . I used to listen music in my kitchen to the itouch 3rd, 4th gen trough ATV over airplay. Another bug probably with this Unfinished version of IOS6 . Hopefully they will fix it in the next update.

I am also experiencing the same skipping issue, its like I am back in JR High with my first walkman all over again. At first I thought it was just with the Pandora App, but iTunes does it as well. Very annoying!

Updated Apple tv 2

Updated iPhone 4 to iOS 6

Updated iPad 2 to iOS 6

Hopefully Apple comes with a fix soon because plugging in the 3.5mm jack is not what I had in mind and why I purchased the Apple TV

Same issue for me, my iPhone 4s and iPad 2 don't "see" my AirPlay audio device anymore (Yamaha RX-V473) after installing iOS 6. Yesterday I did some tests with a friends iPad having iOS 5 and the AirPlay device worked properly. So I did some additional investigation in the sometimes (dis)appearing AirPlay icon in several audio apps.

First I checked or the audio device was available on my network and used the Yamaha AV Controller App on my iPad and iPhone. The audio device was available in my network and I could access all kind of functionality and settings, but no AirPlay icon in the standard iOS Music App, Spotify App, etc..

But when I changed the device name of the audio device, using the AV Contoller App, the AirPlay icon appears in all AirPlay supporting apps and audio streaming worked perfect, with a small delay on control actions but that was the same in iOS 5. Also restarting the iPad and iPhone worked, but that is a to much time consuming action in my opinion!

The AirPlay icon disappeared when:

- I connect my iPhone to my WiFi network

- I receive a FaceTime call from another iOS 6 device (not with iOS 5 device!)

- FaceTime call with my iPhone

- Watch a YouTube movie with Jasmine App

- Try to connect from iTunes on my PC

- Sometimes after using Safari

Strange is that my AirPlay device was always accessible from my iPad and iPhone using the Yamaha AV Controller App, what tells me that the network is working fine. This app is also needed for my workaround to activate the AirPlay icon again by changing the name (< 5sec.)! :)

I'm convinced that this is something within iOS 6, because I didn't have problems with iOS 5 using exactly the same configuration for some time. Also the standard Yamaha app always finding my device stronger my thoughts about the main suspect, iOS 6.

Hopefully this will be solved soon, because "It just works!" is no standard behavior in iOS 6.
