Cannot get mail. Connection to the server failed

Five days after upgrading to ios 6 my iPhone 4 cannot get mail. I've checked the iCloud server status and its working. All apps except mail are working. iTunes, App Store, Safari, other apps, etc. I've reset my phone soft and hard. All of my mail accounts are failing. When I compose mail and send it I get the swoosh sound immediately but the mail is not being sent. I don't want to delete my .me account because it says my iCloud will be deleted off my phone. In addition my battery is draining very quickly

I have one more thing not working. When I check for software upgrade under settings - general it cannot check. It says it has an error checking for upgrade.

if you have a back up why not try a complete reinstall to factory settings as sound as if some software bugs?

I did a 'reset all settings' under settings>general and unfortunately I still get the Cannot get Mail, connection to server failed. I'll have to wait until I get home to try an iOS reinstall from my computer. Strange though that only Mail is not working and it cannot connect to server for any account.

When it says 'connection to server failed' what server is it talking about? iCloud server? AT&T servers? Each individual mail account server?

Problem Solved.

I deleted my @me.com mail account and it immediately freed up my other mail accounts to start downloading my mail. Then I added my iCloud mail account back in and it started to work normally.

I was fighting with this problem all day. I tried all of the suggestions listed, and finally called at&t. The agent explained that there's something going on with hotmail that is causing problems on the iPhone. He said there was an easy "go-around"--go into Settings. Then go into mail and select your hotmail account. Then delete it. I know, I know, I tried that too...but wait, there's more. Now when you go to put it back in, don't choose "hotmail", choose "other" when it shows you the list of hotmail, gmail, etc. Go back to home screen and click hotmail and it should sync. If you aren't using hotmail, I don't know if the same applies, but I can't believe how much time I wasted to finally find the answer!

this is such BS...I am in the same boat, old ip5 messed up, they replaced it with my new one...now I have to wait 15 mins for each email to come to me....what a joke...why should this even be an issue for gmail anyway? what's the freaking difference?
