iPhone 5 push email problem

I have a corporate email account and gmail account setup on my new iPhone. Push works for about an hour or two after every hard reset. Is anyone else having this issue?

Yes, a significant number of people are having this problem. All of our enterprise users on MS Exchange and Gmail cannot get Push to work on the iPhone 5. You may want to follow this discussion on the topic, as most people are posting about it to this one. We encourage everyone to report to Apple Customer Support, so they can document the matter. https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4345374?start=0&tstart=0. For now, though, there is no temporary fix other than to change the settings to Manual Fetch.

Known problem, as GrayBird88 said.

What you can do is turn Airplane Mode ON, wait 10 secs or so, then back OFF. Don't bother re-creating accounts, restoring, etc. It's a waste of time and will NOT fix anything.

The problem is a crash of an iPhone process that handles Exchange push over cellular. You cannot fix it yourself. The trick above will restart the crashed process (as will a restart), but after some time (minutes or hours) it will crash again. It's a bug Apple created with iPhone 5 push software. It apparently works fine for other models.

If you want to confirm the crashes:

Settings>General>About>Diagnostics&Usage>Diagnostic&Usage Data

Look for apsd_date, where date is the date and time of the apsd (Apple Push Service Daemon) crash. If you have one or more of these, you have the problem.

Apple has to fix it with an iOS update. Many of us have opened support calls and Apple is aware of the bug and are working on it.

Caesarp - if Hotmail push email is working, then likely Hotmail is not using Exchange Active Sync for its email. If you open your Hotmail settings in Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars you can see if it is an Exchange account.

The bug seems to be associated with only the Exchange push part of the code. This code is very different than non-Exchange push. It's the Exchange push that is broken. Non-Exchange push part of the code, like iCloud email (xxx@me.com) is not crashing and works fine.

Well it was set up by choosing exchange in account set up. It does not show pop settings. Shows mail contacts etc. with on off toggles. Days to synch and folders to push. Just like my work email.

So does hotmail exchange push work differently? If so, that could be a clue for a fix by apple.

I never have push issues with hotmail. Just work account. Exact issue in this thread.

I know I am late to the party here, but I have not an issue with pushing my corporate e-mail. I have had my phone since the 22nd of Sept. and thankfully have not had too many issues, although my g-mail stopped syncing and gave me errors which is what I was hoping to find an answer for...hope it has been fixed for you.

Okay, I think I may have finally resolved this. I tried everything recommended here -- and at the Apple Genuis Bar - and nothing worked for mroe than five minues.

Yesterday, i turned off the passcode lock (i had turned it on with my new iPhone 5) and it started pushing IMMEDIATELY and it has kept doing it ever since. Hopefully this is the fix. Good luck to all.

I can just tell you my experience. I have been struggling with this for weeks. I tried everything. I turned off my passcode lock because I recalled that this had not been a problem when i first got the phone, and i had had turned on the passcode lock a few days after i got the fone.

When i turned it off, the change was INSTANT. LIterally. It has not stopped since. And that is the only thing I did.

So there you go.

I've had an iPhone 5 since launch day, and my push for my corparate exchange as weall as for GMail has always worked, and I also have a pascode lock on my iPhone. When I look into my crashes, I only see 4 crash dumps since 11-13-2012, and 2 of those are Faebook, one is Siri, and one is an Apple service (the 11-13-2012 dump).
