Can't install updated version of iTunes because "path to file ja*lproj contains a non valid character. Have eliminated all temp files but still get same response. Au secours! Thanks for any help.I'm using Windows XP

I cannot install the updated version of iTunes because I get a message saying that the path to file ja*lproj contains an invalid character. Similarly I cannot disinstall for the same reason and the same message. I have tried also by eliminating all temp files but to no avail. Can anyone suggest a solution? Thanks in advance.
