iphone 5 dialer can not successfully dial numbers after a programmed pause. The speed at which the dialer attempts to dial the remaining numbers is too slow to complete the sequence before the phone system kicks it out Does anyone else have a similar problem? Have never had a phone with this kind of problem, even the cheapest of phones. Typical "storred" phone dialing sequence is 999 5551212,5555,6666. Phone should dial the 5551212 number, wait for a tone, dial the "5555", wait for a tone, then dial the "6666". My phone will dial the 5551212 number, pause, then start dialing the 5555 , but only 1 number about every 10-15 seconds. The receiving device typicall kickes out long before the secondary strings are dialed

I have this same problem. I'm trying to dial my landline office voicemail from my iPhone, so I must dial three separate numbers with wait or pause between each. The sequence looks like this (with fake numbers):

1234567890;2345678901#,,1234123# where the semi-colon is a "wait" and the 2 commas are 2 "pauses".

With the semi-colon the phone "waits" for me to press DIAL to continue, but the rest of the numbers either isn't heard or is just going t-o-o s-l-o-w-l-y and my voicemail hangs up.

I replaced the semi-colon with 2 commas & it worked better, but not everytime.

There's another discussion of this in the apple forum -- so you're not the only one with this problem.

One person had success by turning off wi-fi before dialing. That worked for me once, but not always.

Sometimes the tones dial slowly -- about 5 seconds apart. Sometimes it works. No joy.

Don't know if it's relevant, but my iPhone 5 is with Verizon Wireless (in California).

I have a genius bar appt for tomorrow evening. I'll let you know if I have success.

I have had two sessions with the Genius Bar! Each time the genius I got said he had never heard of "this kind of dialing"! Needless to say neither accomplished anything. The second time they "escalated" the issue up the Apple chain. Haven't heard anything back yet. If you have any results, please let me know. I will do the same if I find a solution!

Late last night, I had a chance to try dialing after turning Wi-Fi off. It worked one time - but was really strange. The phone was still "sending" dial tone notes long after the phone connection was made. It appears that the tones played through the earpiece don't have anything to do with when the actual "signals" are being sent down the line. Don't know any other way that the connection could have been made before the complete string had been sent. This is not an indication that there isn't still a probbem, because it failed to make a connection on any of 5 subsequent dialing attempts!

This morning, my phone was unlocked for international service which requires a reset to factory conditions and a complet reload of the OS. Nothing changed - still won't make the programmed calls.

Thanks for the info. I have had exactly the same experience -- sometimes it doesn't work at all and my voicemail hangs up on me. Other times my voicemail has accepted my call, but I keep hearing the tones like my phone is still dialing! Occasionally, it works as it should.

I will definitely let you know what happens at the genius bar tonight.

If you haven't already, I suggest you search on this forum for: "pause" and "wait" not working. Several others have had the same problem.

I'm having the exact same problem. I have two series of pauses programmed in in the sequence...the phone is supposed to dial a number, pause for the number to connect, enter another number to connect to a specific mailbox, pause, then enter the mailbox code. I've had this programmed in for years and it's worked w/o fail until iOS 6. No question in my mind it's the operating system. It actually connects to the initial phone number, even though I can still hear the phone dialing slowly. It won't ever complete the second step because it's fiddling around with the SLOW dial of the initial code so it won't enter the password when being prompted to do so.

Sounds like we're all having variations of the same problem. I've been on the road -- not even hooked up to wi-fi -- so I question whether that comes into play at all.

A couple of updates 1) my US service provider is Sprint. 2) I have basically a 1?% dialing success rate in US. 3) 1 1/2 week ago I had my phone unlocked to allow overseas use - it made no difference in the dialing "speed" of the numbers after the first "pause" or "wait". 4) One week ago I went to China. Since arriving, I have been editing my US numbers to allow the "programmed dialing" sequences to go from China phone service to computer network to US computer network to US service provider to US number. During the dialing number editing, I used the "+" key to bring up the , ; pause and wait options. rather than pressing the , or ; buttons, i used the "wait" button after the first phone provider phone number. Although it is not as convenient as a "pause" function, the programmed sequences work nearly 100% of the time.

I have no idea if the success is based on the use of the "wait" button during programming or if it has something to do with the Chinese phone network (Provider is China Mobile) or what, but the length of time between the programmed key presses is MUCH less which allows the calls to go through. All i have to do is press the "call button" several times during the actual dialing of the number.

As I said, I have no idea what is different with the service provider, phone network, actual phone hardware adjustments that i don't know about, or the phase of the moon, but in one specific set of circumstances the procedure is now actually working "acceptably" for me (at least until I get back into the states) as long as i use the "wait" function between the number sequences.

Hope this might help somebody else (or if anyone from Apple is actually looking at any of this maybe it can give them a clue????)

Thought I was nuts, same issue. Same sequense worked on iPhone 4s but 5 doesn't work. Keep sending out tones even when it gets thru but have the time gets kicked out of the system. Trying to call into a Citrix Phone system and it needs all the numbers to give back your messages. Apple needs to step up here and take care of this it's not the service providers it's an iPhone 5 issue....
