Q: Did Apple stop supporting iPad1?

I've heard all the buzz about iPad1 not receiving OS6 and was wondering if this means that it's the end of the line for my iPad1?

iPad, iOS 5.1.1

I realize that I can still use it and I really like the ipad1. I am wondering if it will be more vulnerable to security problems - that type of thing.

Also - will apps be more likely to be made just for the newer ipads. There are many games that seem intriguing but won't run on the ipad1.

How old are iPad1s now?  Apple only supports hardware for 5 years.  Usually after about 4 years you really start seeing support drop off.  But that's for computers.  I recall when we bought an iPhone the salesperson said, "You'll get at least two years out if the battery, by which time you'll be thinking about getting a new model anyway."
