Repeated kernel error

After mounting any AFP volume, the system log show these errors (repeated three times). I have fixed permissions and verified the drive with DiskUtility/fsck. What is causing this and what are the likely consequences?

Had same problem, you need to turn off, then turn on, imediately hold shift key, wait for safe mode to boot up, could take 10 -20 minutes, keep holding shift key though. ****** me off, because my computer works now but software updater quits all the time now when i run it. Once your computer is booted, run a restart.

I've booted the affected systems in Safe Mode several times since first noticing the AFP permissions snafu and that hasn't made any difference. Are you suggesting to boot in Safe Mode, mount the AFP volumes, then boot normally again and hope things are back to normal? Thought I'd already done that but had been thinking of double-checking.

I've also wanted to test while booted from generic OS volumes. Just recently was able to set up volumes to do that but haven't had testing time yet.

Oh, Safe Boot taking 20(!) minutes sounds like its own problem. It's always taken about the same time as regular booting on my systems.

Thanks for the response and suggestion!
