I have recently trashed 200gb of files and restarted, but still only have 47 gb available space on hard drive

Hi.

I recently cleared out 200gb of files, emptied the trash and restarted, yet my hard drive only shows 47gb free space.

My hard drive is 500gb.

Please advice.

Thanks

I did 2 sweeps, one on my hard drive and It is using 451 GB where as 405 of them are in users? further right is says 404gb bands under sparsebundle?

And one on my home folder that is using 299gb?'

Any additional suggestions are warmly welcome.

If I am to follow this extensive process of backing up my home folder and creating a new user before deleting my current user account etc. I am a little uncertain what info i am supposed to relate to.

In Omnidisk is list my user folder at 299.4GB, and when I use "command i" on my selected user/homeholder, it says 955GB used..

I dont want to start backing up 300GB of stuff, putting a hault to my work, and then finding out I really need 1T to back up.

Any suggestions are welcomed.

Thanks!

I am backing up my 'homefolder' but what about my 'hardrive' under 'Devices' that contains my 'homefolder'? It also contains my applications folder, Library folder, system folder, user guide and users folder which again contains my home folder and shared items folder?

The applications folder in my home folder is empty.

Any advise?
