great, that's what I thought. but I was in two different apple stores today and they did not agree to sell it to me for full price- only with a two year plan.

A two year contract is only required when purchasing an iPhone at the carrier's subsidized or discounted price, not when purchasing the iPhone at the full retail sales price.
Stop by an AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint retail store to purchase the iPhone from whichever carrier you will be using the iPhone with without a long term contract.
ya i cant find it anywhere, wanted to activate mine on straight talk like ive done with all my phones. im just waiting for it to come out on apple store.
till then u can check craigslist or i was even thinking buying it with a contract but not the 2 year agreement like the month to month and then just calling and canciling my contract...
