I have the same issue, however I've yet to be quick enough to take a screenshot of it occuring. I've booked a Genius Bar appointment for Thursday and am hoping to get a replacement device - this will be my 3rd iPhone 5 since release date if it's replaced on Thursday. Also I noticed when taking photos with the flash in darkness photos would come out like this, as if I've put an effect on them from Instagram.
Please excuse the content of the photo, but this was during me trying to figure out how to make it occur when I take it in to the Genius Bar as it doesn't do it on demand.

hi bro, i captured one video with the problem, went to the MAXIS service center at TTDI (upper floor), showed the staff the video, no question asked and replace with a new phone in 10 min, but do bring along your maxis warranty card (the one that stick together with the box), no need to bring accessories as they will just replace the phone with special replacement unit in their store room (there are not refurbished but brand new).

I have the same issue with my iphone 5, the problem is, when i took it back to the globe telecom philippines, they didnt replace it, instead the took my phone and sent it in their main office and told me to wait for 1month because the only thing they could do is repair it. What is more upsetting is that they did not even give me a temporary phone to be use.

There is definalty something wrong with the hardware/software here. It seems to happen more often when you move the phone from portrait to landscape as I found out earlier this week. The backup and restore option the Apple staff tell you to do does nothing and its just a way of stalling for time.

Just a heads up that I had the same problem - narrowed it down to interference from the GPRS/2G radio (could reproduce it easily when Wifi & 3G were off, but not when they were on).
Took it to the Apple Store in Newcastle and they replaced without any questions. New one appears not to suffer from the same problem.

I have experienced the stripe problem with the camera of my two week old iPhone 5 yesterday. I rebooted the phone and tried to reduplicate the issue, but it hasn't happened again since then. I wonder what it depends on but can't imagine it's a hardware problem, because I guess it should happen each time I use the camera in the same conditions and shouldn't be resolved by a reboot of the device...

Trust me this is a hardware problem and you will see the problem again sometime soon. I have 2 unit stock iPhone 5 with same installations with latest iOS 6. One exhibit the problem once a while while the other never. The defect with the purple stripes are quite common for low end digicam also, its a problem with the sensor, not the software. Simple logic question: If its a software problem, why some have this problem and others never while everyone is using the same latest software?!

Since Apple uses different hardware components, couldn't it be that the drivers are not compatible with some but work well with others?

all iPhone 5 sensors are from SONY. Its a hardware problem, you will know soon. I've gone through this for months. If you can get replaced, do so asap. My telco changed to a new phone after acknowledging its a hardware failure, no question asked.

It's just like you said, there is defo something up with the GPRS 3G to 2G switch. If I turn 3G off and WIFI at the same time then launch the camera to take a pic, the purple lines come up straight away. It does seem to be the radio is interfering with the camera. It's bizarre and irritating and I'm not really happy to take my 6 week old iPhone back to apple so they can give me a refurbished one when mine is a brand new unit. I'm going to get in touch with O2 and put a complaint forward unless they acknowledge this and offer me a new unit (sealed) or terminate my contract.

I tried and tried, but couldn't reduplicate the issue anymore...
