Any way to work around Apple's underhandedness in regards to Software Update and Windows?

So, it appears as though Apple as intentionally broken Software Update so that it will disregard Bootcamp on Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit). Everytime I run it, it does nothing; it doesn't even bother telling me my "software is up-to-date." The progress bar appears, and then it disappears. Apple's help pages say in order to get the latest version of Software Update (the working version I presume), you have to install iTunes, Quicktime, or Safari. Well, I don't want to install any of those; I shouldn't have to. I am able to get up to Bootcamp 3.3 by manually downloading the installers, but Apple refuses to release a manual download for 4.0. Anybody found a work around for this?

And why I think Apple is behind this is because it use to work no problem, I think ever since the Mountain Lion update.

I'm on a 2009 MacBook running WIndows 7 Ultimate 64-bit.

MacBook, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2), Bootcamping Windows 7 Ultimate 64b

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Mountain Lion. There's a Mountain Lion Support Community where everybody has Mountain Lion. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/os_x_mountain_lion

Hey thanks! Good to know. The Boot Camp forum would probably be best.

Note, however, that I had this same problem before upgrading to Mountain Lion, but it started about the time when Mountain Lion was soon to be released.

Which version of Boot Camp Assistant is in your Utilities Folder? 3.0 is in Snow Leopard and 4.0 is in Lion. I don't know the Mountain Lion version since I'm still running Snow Leopard. There's nothing new in Lion that I need and I still have some Power PC programs that I don't want to lose.

It's 5.0. But the CD that it allows you to create is Boot Camp 4.0. And, I should also add, this same problem happens on my 2012 iMac, however, it accepts Boot Camp 4.0 from the start. I have to work my way up to it on my MacBook.
