Should I upgrade my iPad 2 to iOS 6, or should I wait for iOS 6.0.1?

I've heard alot of bad reviews for iOS 6, particularly for the iPad 2. I just want the consensus of the Apple community on what they think.

FWIW this is my experience with iOS 6.

I updated my iPad 3 (wifi only) to iOS 6 within the first ten minutes of its release. I was really looking forward to one of the new features. (One that turned out to be mostly a major bummer and didn't fully meet my needs.)

I guess that makes me an early adopter. Generally I wait for the first incremental release after a major release assuming there will be issues to shake out. I did this with OS X 10.8 and I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Since updating to iOS 6 my iPad has progressively gotten worse. At first things seemed pretty good. But since then the iPad has gotten weird. Click on an app and it doesn't load, takes a long time, crashes and restarts, etc. At first I thought it was "gremlins" but then it occured with such frequency there could be no doubt that iOS 6 was the cause.

This week I noticed that push notifications of email (using Gmail with the Microsoft Exchange option) completely stopped working. I can only get email by opening the Mail app and requesting it. Additionally the activity spinner never goes to a non-busy state when the Mail app is open. And the Mail app itself crashes frequently. Something is seriously wrong.

Also this week the iPad "hard crashed" for the first time ever since purchasing it. It happened two days ago and once again about 10 minutes ago. Both times it seemed to be related somehow to pulling down the notification center and clicking the handy option to start a tweet. This froze the iPad for about a minute and then it rebooted on its own. The Home button and the power button had absolutely no effect.

After coming back up from this crash my notification center is completely empty and the option to start a tweet is completely gone.

I haven't had the problem where wifi is ghosted but wifi definitely feels weird. It pauses a lot, seems slower, etc.

I wish I could rollback to the last incremental version of iOS 5 but that isn't an option that Apple has chosen to make available for us unpaid beta testers. I do wish Apple was more responsive with information, such as confirming what they know about these issues rather than allowing rampant speculation. I also wish they'd let us know a timeline for the next incremental release.

My advice is wait for 6.0.1. These issues are simply too frustrating.

If it ain't broke don't fix it.... I would strongly recommend that u don't upgrade until they have sorted out these glitches, whenever there is a update it pays to wait to see what issues that other users may have u don't rush in and update, apple will eventually sort it out,I liken it to birth pains at childbirth..If ur reliant on google maps u will lose this feature if u upgrade to ios6 if u want to keep google maps then don't upgrade stick with ios5.1.1

My Wife and I haven't updated to iOS 6 yet as it's been too many issues posted per iDevice users.

I remember when iOS 5 came out and it was issues until 5.0.1 and even 5.1.1 both came out, which fixed a load of problems.

I suggest to wait until 6.0.1 or even 6.1.1 to update.

My wife and I decided to wait until 6.1.1 to update or later.

Our iDevices are working just fine on 5.1.1 and still can use Youtube and Google Map apps.

In opinion I would wait and suggest you do likewise.

Hope this helps.

I strongly recommend NOT upgrading (I use that term loosely) to iOS 6 on iPad 2. Added functionality is modest, maps are poor relative to existing Google Maps, and it decimates your battery life. Using my iPad intermittently throughout the day is is down to about 20% by mid afternoon (after a full charge over night) and it will completely die by the evening. Wait for iOS 6.1, i figure it will be out in a couple of weeks to fix some of the massive issues.
