There is only one audio port on my computer. When i connect anything into the port it is recognized as headphones (Audio out), even when its not, how do i change the setting to make other things show up as Audio in?

The problem is that my computer is recognizing the device im plugging in as a headphones, and then it won't let me change it. The "use audio for" dropbox doesnt show up on my computer, And there is only one shared audio in/out port.
Try going to utilities>audioMIDI setup, click input tab, in the left column click built in input. Then check system preferences>sound, input tab. See if this helps.
I tried this earlier, the input is gray and i cannot click it.
Try a pram reset

You can also try an SMC reset, read the bottom about removable battery and non removable battery and click the link that applies to you.

Gota logout now,
Hope this helps.
i dont think that will work im probably gonna end up bying a sound card or something.
The thing I can't understand is why there's no necessary button in the preferences. How's this possible?
To buy something else? It's not the best way of solving this problem. In this case I could say Apple just makes us buying something that we don't need.
