My ical on my laptop is displaying infinite repeat of events,

When i open up my ical program it seems to get stuck in an 'ical-updating' loop. Each event appears to be repeating infinitely and i have to 'force closure' It is not synced with iCloud, however the data from my calendar on my exchange account i have set up to sync with my iphone and ipad and it is fine. When it was set up originally set up on my macbook pro it looked fine. I think this started occuring when i shut down and restarted my laptop. Not sure what is happening. Any ideas?
