I'm not sure whether it's a bug or a feature, but iOS 6 changed when the "swoosh" sound is played from being when the mail is actually sent to when you hit "Send."
You can see this by sending email from the device; you'll hear the "swoosh" long before the "Sending" progress bar has completed.
This somehow doesn't seem like the right thing to do…

Other silly iOS6 "feature".... have it, too, and strongly hope it's a bug.
If not: that together with poor battery life and WIFI plus Bluetooth cutting out, I am gonna wave goodbye to Apple products.... I am just FED UP with them.
Have the same issue. It's misleading because you think it's gone and it's not.
Having same issue with New ipad & iphone 4 on IOS 6..Restting device & Mail accounts-nothing works.

My iPod iOS6 is also really often stuck at "Sending" without an "Outbox" present which means that in reality I can't tell if the message is really gone or not even after a few minutes... 😟

I got confirmation it's a known bug, so I hope it will be fixed in a future release.
Good to hear. That sound fills a pretty useful purpose when your connection is spotty. Before iOS 6, I used to hear it all the time when sending a bunch of emails on the subway, then coming up above ground and getting audio confirmation of them going out.

It's apparently either very low priority or they're just ignoring it, unfortunately. 😮
Logging another bug won't really help as it's already in their system, but calling AppleCare never hurts. 😉
This has to be the canonical example of the sad death of Apple's attention to detail.
