New laptop does not detect iPod Touch

So basically, I recently brought a new laptop (an Acer Aspire V3-571G, Windows7 64-bit operating system, etc etc..).

I downloaded iTunes and used home sharing to transfer my music across to my new laptop, which worked fine. So basically, my new laptop is fully set up for my iPod. However, when I plug in my iPod my laptop doesn't recognise it and puts it down as an unknown device. How do I fix this? I have tried several times (i.e. unplugging and plugging back in), including troubleshooting it about 3 times.

My iPod is an iPod Touch 4th Generation which uses iOS4 (because my old laptop kept crashing whenever I tried to get iOS5!!!).

I had problems with my old laptop never being able to complete a sync (it would get right to the last stage and would then say sync had failed) so I don't know if that's a problem with my iPod or my old laptop. (old laptop - Toshiba Satellie T130)

Any help?

iPod touch, iOS 4.3.3, 4th Gen. also; Acer Aspire V3-571G

well, i didnt need to charge ipod cos its full battery,

restarting computer takes less than a minute,

restarting ipod takes less than a minute.

i cant reinstall itunes cos it has my whole library on it and i cant use homesharing anymore cos i gave the only other laptop with my itunes library on to my dad who took it to a friend of his about 30 mins ago. and also why would i need to reinstall it if i only installed itunes about 3 hours ago anyway? and its more like 25 mins actually cos i was already halfway through going through the article when i wrote the first post.

oh and fyi, i dont have quicktime.
