I have tried to uninstall Itunes several times

I have some 'ghost' apple msi files that will not uninstall in order that I can reinstall itunes. I've just purchased an I phone and this is driving me nuts. I've followed the instructions at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1925 exactly, but I cannot get the apple software update, itunes or quicktime.msi (installation package) files to go away! They appear in my control panel 'uninstall' section as white files and each time I try to uninstall the report comes back 'the path... temp\IXP133.TMP\AppleSoftwareUPdate.msi cannot be found. Verify you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package AppleSoftwareUpdate.msi in a folder from which you can instal the product Apple Software Update"

I have purchased online support from advance tech support, bought regcure pro at a cost, and still I can't get rid of apple in order I can have apple i phone. PLEASE help!!

(1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the User uploaded file "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):

http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459

(2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)

(3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.

(4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

User uploaded file

Next, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

Next, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:

(5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

Does it go through properly this time?

Thank you - nearly! It got rid of the ghost files no problem, but now I have a registry key issue. I've found your instructions on that and went through the process as you have suggested here;

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3581

that didn't work, so tried the uninstall, then reinstall with explorer as a different browser

that didn't work

Only thing I wonder about is that I just had some work done on the computer by this company = remotely

http://www.advanced-techsupport.com/contact/

And also changed my security from mcaffee to Malwarebytes at their suggestion.

I'm no genius on a computer by any means so I really can only follow instructions! Itunes used to work ok!

Thanks for your input thus far.

Try heading back into the "Permissions for Components" screen shown at step 12 of the Tip instructions:

(12) In the "Permissions for Components" screen that comes up, click the Advanced button:

User uploaded file

Select Administrators, check "Full Control" under Allow, and click OK.

Repeat for any "Users" entries showing up in there.

Try the install again. Any better luck?

Ha! well, I have itunes downloaded now... but then encountered the next issue. It doesn't load up. The icon sits there. I followed more of your instructions on someone elses challenge with this - I restarted and opened windows task manager

The itunes helper was already there before I double clicked the icon for itunes, and on double clicking the itunes ext*32 comes up under image name, CPU action for about 1 second and then disappears from processes

Sheesh!

Ack. I haven't done much work on error-message-free launch failures for a while.

Just in case, try reinstalling the most recent version of the QuickTime Player. Do you still get the same launch issue with iTunes?
