Podcast app doesn't work with iTunes this made me want back to 5.1.1

I agree, i tried to do what i always do at my office today on my ipod touch, connect to the wifi at the end of the day to download new podcast episodes for my subway ride home, and instead, iTunes with the ios6 update installed yesterday won't let me do that, it tells me i need the new Podcasts app, fine, i go install it, and then when i go back to music, it tells me my podcasts are moved, i go to the new app, so over i go. The new app is slow, crashes twice trying to get into it, i can't see any way to make a playlist, i managed to download some new episodes, but can't see how to make a playlist still. I found out how to delete it (and doing so brought back Podcasts and my podcast playlist to the music app, huzzah!!)

The Podcasts app is not the quality i want from Apple. I like my ipod, i really do, but it seems Apple is convinced that whenever they make a change they think will make things better, they delete old ways of doing things that work for us, the real people in the world using their devices. I like the notion of a stand alone app for finding and downloading podcasts, but why does that necessitate removing them from the music app to play since primarily i download all my new podcasts at night, listen to some on my computer while working at home, put them in an itunes playlist in the order i want to listen to them, then sync each morning with my PC to have whatever i haven't listened to in a playlist so it can play all day at work while i'm there.

Hopefully Apple can learn from this and the ongoing Maps debacle to maybe not be so quick to tell their users how we have to use the devices, and instead spend some time listening to how we use the devices to make our experience better rather than enforcing how they want it used on us.

The POS app won't even download podcasts anymore. I listen to the A&G show and under the itunes (5.1.1 OS) the podcasts downloaded perfectly fine.

Now I'm forced to use this stupid podcasts app and it downloads what looks like 99-100% and fails out saying it was unable to download - at 15mb each this is 60mb for the 4 episodes a day wasted. bandwidth isn't unlimited anymore so now apple is cost me money.

Ok, next question. I used to be able to download a podcast directly on my phone then have it sync back to the computer when I got home. Now, if I remove the podcast app, get my music setup the way I want, then try to manually download a podcast from iTunes on my iPhone, it tells me that I can't do that. That I HAVE to use the podcast app to download onto my phone. So, is there a way to take the podcast app off, make the music app play podcasts AND be able to download podcasts directly on my phone?

No, and that is the reason everyone hates the Podcasts App aside from its overall slowness and lack of Playlists. Whatever change they have made to the on-device iTunes, it blocks downloading podcasts there and tries to force you to use the Podcasts app, which then doesn't let us listen to podcasts in the music app playlists like I want to (and it seems many others do too).

Apple has decided for you that the only way to download a podcast to your ios device now is through their buggy and lacking functionality app Podcasts.

Hopefully Apple will back off and restore the way things worked under ios5, though my more realistic expectation is a forced change that there won't be a way to back out of coming.

What exactly do you mean by...

1. Remove Podcast app from your (iOS Device and) iTunes! ???

How do you remove Podcasts from iTunes aside from unchecking Show Podcasts from the General tab in iTunes preferences.

Thank you! I was so frustrated with the new podcast app and apparent lack of support on iTunes on my iPhone. Now, I have podcasts back in iTunes on the iPhone - thanks to your post. I am not sure I would have figured this out on my own. Really - I can't express how much frustration you have just freed me from.

I hope everyone on this thread is aware of the problem with home sharing your iTunes library (including Podcasts) in iOS 6. Simply put, it's broken. If your Podcast app issues dovetail with this (i.e., under iOS 6 you have to take up RAM on your iThing in order to listen to podcasts using the new dedicated app and home sharing now longer includes podcasts), please use an Apple feedback page and let them know your problem and/or displeasure with this "improvement" (read "major bug"). I have read on another thread that a member contacted Apple Support by phone and the problem was unknown on Tier 1 support and was escalated to Tier 2. Keep the pressure on 'em and hopefull this will be fixed. . .SOON.

Podcasts App is the worst decision ever!

Thank you so much Pan for posting your solution on how to remove the disasterous Podcasts app from my phone. I've now successful reinstated podcasts in my iPhone music app. Much appreciated.

But can you use home sharing from your Mac to stream podcasts to your iDevice? I still don't see any of the suggestions here working (on my configuration, at least). Just because the podcasts are still in your iTunes Library and you have home sharing enabled doesn't mean it works.

KEEP THE PRESSURE ON APPLE. Call Tech Support and don't let go until they escalate it and give you a case number!

Did not allow me to stream Podcasts through the Music app like before. Fail!
