I am trying to remove an app, but the "x" does not appear when I touch the app & get it to jiggle.

You may have Restrictions turned on. Go into Settings > General > Restrictions > make sure "Deleting Apps" is set to "ON".

If you don't get the 'x' on any of the apps that you've downloaded (you can't delete built-in apps) then check that Settings > General > Restrictions > Deleting Apps isn't set 'off'
