Really? Stompbox FX won't record?

Am I missing something? Are the stompbox effects playback effects only?

Guitar inputs and amp models are working fine. Stompbox FX are fun and sound pretty good. Recording is going flawlessly, except . . . the recorded electric guitar track does not include the stompbox effects. You can click them on and off during playback, and hear the effects (distortion, flanging, chorusing, the whole works) but they are not part of the recording.

I've been through the community forums, through GarageBand help . . . haven't found the topic, help doesn't speak to this question. I can't find any preferences or settings that address this.

I mixed a six-track song down to stereo to see if the stombox FX were somehow coded in, and would magically appear upon mixdown. They didn't.

This behavior is identical in GB for iOS (iOS6) on an iPad and in GB '11 (6.05) on my MacAir.

Really puzzled. Or disappointed.
