Sound or Rotate Lock for the side switch?

I have set my side switch to mute but when I do this all the sound on game apps don't work, I have increase the volume on the side switch but still not working. Why can't we set both the sound and rotation to work together without having to choose one or the other at the side switch preferences? So now every time I want to play a game I have to adjust the screen to horizontal then go to settings to have the side switch set for rotation lock in order to have the sound on my games to work. Thank you iOS6! You certainly thought this well for users.....
