Green glow on iPhone 5 unlock screen?

I've had my iPhone 5 for a few days now and I've noticed this issue more and more. Whenever I wake my iPhone there is a split second where a green glow around the edge of the screen is visible. It's a bit like light leakage but its green and only appears for a fraction of a second after you turn on the screen. It is also sometimes activated by using the slide to unlock, which makes it glow brighter.

Does anyone else have this happening with their new iPhone? I don't know if this is the start of a defect or not... I have had very rare graphical flickering and tearing of the keyboard UI, but that's only happened once or twice and only for a second, as soon as I started typing it went away.

It looks like this might turn into a trip to the Apple store, I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this weird phenomenon on their new iPhones.

Just to be clear to everyone on the behavior I have seen:

I received 4 iphone 5's. One on launch day, the other three a few weeks later.

The launch day phone has Zero issues. Works perfect.

Only one of the three that I received later had the issue.

It happened with version 6.0, after a reset, after a full wipe, and it also happened after going to 6.0.1, and doing a reset and full wipe there too.

The green glow happened no matter what I did.

Apple mailed a replacement.

It did not experience the green glow at all. I did a restore, still no green.

It has been several weeks and still no green glow.

All of my iphone 5's work perfectly now.

There are phones that do not exhibit this. I am amazed that some Apple stores seem to have only defective units that show the green glow.

If the green bothers you, Call Apple and complain. Keep calling until you get a new one that does not have the issue.

It's nice to hear that we are in fact a minority, at the moment it feels like 9/10 iPhones have this issue!

The problem here in the UK, or with O2 contract at least, is that its not that simple to just swap out a handset to a new one in the apple store, you're in there for roughly half an hour while they navigate O2's awful activation process... Apple dont have as much control over carriers as they seem to in the US. I'm not sure if they can even mail you a replacement phone in the post if you're locked on contract...

I am in the UK, I got my iPhone 5 on launch day. This was my first iPhone 5 64GB and it had the Green glow. I noticed my iPhone 4 was perfect locking unlocking, except the iPhone 5.

I have had now 7/8 different brand new ones all come with same issue. 16GB, 32Gb, 64GB Black White which ever all have the Green Glow.

It is obviously a manufacturing issue and all the batches thus far have issues with them in UK.

Also on the white and black the sleep button has light leakage which all the people here posting have failed to noticed also.

I got my iPhone 5 on the launch day in Bluewater. Nover seen this green glow until I updated to 6.0.1. Pehaps I wasn't noticing it before, don't know, but this piece of sh*t for £700 is getting on my nerves now... My case isn't extreme as others are, but still...

Can I replace my phone without going to Bluewater, can I just call Apple to get me a new phone by post? If so, what number do I call? Not that I'm gonna do it, as all these iPhones have something wrong with them. Power button, home button, scratches and f*ck knows what else..

Cheers.

I have had exactly the same thing happen to me. When my phone has been locked for a while and I press a button, the green glow is visible and then it just disappears down to the bottom until you can no longer see it. If I locked my phone again after this and then unlocked it, it wouldn't do it. It has to be locked for about 5 minutes or more for it to do it. I thought it was my fault because I managed to drop my phone on concrete the day I had it and I scratched and dented the top of it, but I now know that it can't be my fault as other people are experiencing it too.

I am not sure what to do about it. It is annoying but it's not stopping the phone from working. The thing that's annoying is the fact I have had it just over 2 weeks and something has already happened. Also the fact that I paid £104.99 handset charge and i am also paying £36 a month for 2 years.

What should I do? My phone isn't insured and I am on the network EE, but I got the phone from phones4u.

Thanks guys!!

I've had the same problem with my Iphone 5 right out of the box.. and it was gradually getting worse so decided to swap it in.

- Went back to Apple Store (West Quay)

- Genius' team said that they are aware of a few people with the same problem, including some of the Apple employees at the store

- No one seemed to be in a particular rush to swap theirs in, possibly a few are waiting time until their units worsen and wait for the likliehood of an updated model getting released later on to swap in for..?

I was actually having problems with signal etc. so decided to use up one of my 'limited unit swaps' to have a replacement as I had the feeling that unit was a lemon.

- Got a brand new replacement after the Genius took at look at it!:

- has exactly the same green screen problem. I quite like it.. a bit Matrixy - especially at night if left asleep for a while.

Basically I'm going to wait until there's an updated version out and then see if I can get mine swapped in. This is a blatant hardware issue with loads of Iphone 5s.

I went to the Apple store yesterday and when I spoke to the "genius" about the green glow, he was very rude too me so I swapped him for a different person. He will regret he was rude.

So, once I eventually found a nice person to talk to, she swapped my phone straight away for a brand new one. I'm not entirely sure if the green glow still appears, and if it does, it does it in a different way. It certainly doesn't look the same, but it's to oearly to say.

I didn't replace my phone only because of the green glow, but I had issues with camera, dust inside the screen and a built quality.

Now I have a brand new iphone 5... Will let you know if I see the green glow again.

I have had both issues, the keyboard bug went away with the next update but the story about the green glow is still ongoing. I've had 4 different iPhone 5's (including the one I'm using right now) all replaced by Apple right away, not many questions asked and hassle free.

I got my replacement handset number 4 delivered yesterday and I can see this is a faulty one too. Luckily the team member dealing with my case is really helpful and understanding. I have to notify him today to get this one replaced one more time.

Wish me luck.
