Q: Green glow on iPhone 5 unlock screen?

I've had my iPhone 5 for a few days now and I've noticed this issue more and more. Whenever I wake my iPhone there is a split second where a green glow around the edge of the screen is visible. It's a bit like light leakage but its green and only appears for a fraction of a second after you turn on the screen. It is also sometimes activated by using the slide to unlock, which makes it glow brighter.

Does anyone else have this happening with their new iPhone? I don't know if this is the start of a defect or not... I have had very rare graphical flickering and tearing of the keyboard UI, but that's only happened once or twice and only for a second, as soon as I started typing it went away.

It looks like this might turn into a trip to the Apple store, I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this weird phenomenon on their new iPhones.

I thought I could reproduce it - until today: I went to the apple store and wanted to show the green glow to the genius. Nothing! I turned it off, let it asleep. Nothing. Kept it warm cold etc, tried everything macncheese said, the guy took it to the darkroom. No green glow. Stood there like an idiot, went home with the iphone, switched it on. Guess what? Greeeeeeeeen glooooohooooow. I am depressed now.

Sorry to hear that.  Very frustrating.  I made sure i did not take it in until i could reproduce it everytime.

my replacement phone still has the problem but i am willing to live with it compared to the previous phone beucase the green doesn't show up on its on anymore.. and only shows up with i do the arm-rub 'dance' with the phone -which to be honest is not something i do very often.

perhaps you can make a video and print out messages from this forum thread and take it with you next time?

Iphone 5 bought at Apple Store in Munich. 1/2 of the screen is constantly glowing green.

On monday i will try to replace it in Amsterdan, because next week i am on vecation there.

This happened when i put it out of the box and tried to activate it.

I tried to restore it 3 times and nothing is happenig, the screen glows green.

When I hit sleep button, the screen goes normal, but again after few second it goes green again.

That looks bad. And like a new version of the glow issue as it's constantly green.

I suggest what I always suggest: send it to tips@macrumors.com and to apple.

Maybe one day they'll acknowleddge the problem...

Good luck with the next phone!

This looks like a different problem altogether.  your lock-screen looks like its stuck in a loop.  Odd.

I suppose it doesn't help that your wallpaper is a photo of green grass.  how does it look when you have a plain black background as your wallpaper?

    Did anybody try this: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808

This is different from a normal restore. I did this and set the phone up

as a new iphone - NOT from a backup. The glow appears to be gone.

I'll keep you up to date.

Nope, didn't work for me, I deleted everything on the phone and the green glow was still there.

    Hello everyone,

I have the same issue on my white Iphone5. I have gone to the operator and I got it exchanged and guess what .. the new one has same issue but all this trying has helped me find what is causing the issue. It is for sure related to static because I have tried the same on another phone which had a rubber case on. With the rubber case, the issue did not appear which means that if you somehow insulate the metal body parts and the screen.. then the static will not discharge in the screen. Try adding a screen protector first on the screen, see if it still appears and then also a rubber case.

Hopefully Apple will have something to say about this issue. It's clearly a faulty insulation in the case and it is not something expected to happen. I hope next lots of phones will have this issue fixed so I can change mine into a properly working one.

    Let me know results..

    Thanks.

    Interesting!

Rubber case: do you mean something like the bumpers?

    Thanks.

I mean anything that can insulate the metal case from touching your hand. I have only tested with a rubber bumper that covered the back of the phone and the edges also. I personally do not like covering the back of the phone because it's its most beautiful part so I hope that a screen film protector will be enough to stop this from happening.

Still awaiting results from everyone ..

    And from APPLE too ?

    Regards,

    Andrei

I'll get a bumper tomorrow and report.

    Apple's pretty quiet about this...

I am really sorry i have not tried this earlyer. Because i allready sent iphone on reclamation.

You might be right and it must be something with metal parts and static. But THIS IS NOT NORMAL BEHAVIOUR. I mean i paid this thing 690 euro and we do not need to wrap iphone with plastic just to work normaly.
