Q: Green glow on iPhone 5 unlock screen?

I've had my iPhone 5 for a few days now and I've noticed this issue more and more. Whenever I wake my iPhone there is a split second where a green glow around the edge of the screen is visible. It's a bit like light leakage but its green and only appears for a fraction of a second after you turn on the screen. It is also sometimes activated by using the slide to unlock, which makes it glow brighter.

Does anyone else have this happening with their new iPhone? I don't know if this is the start of a defect or not... I have had very rare graphical flickering and tearing of the keyboard UI, but that's only happened once or twice and only for a second, as soon as I started typing it went away.

It looks like this might turn into a trip to the Apple store, I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this weird phenomenon on their new iPhones.

I went in last night and showed the "genius" the green glow at least 30 times. It took over half an hour with him in the back of the store. He came back and said he never saw the green but he would replace it anyways. The bad part... It was already in my notes from apple care to replace. This is getting old. The one they replaced it with has a huge scratch on it and the top ceramic on the back on the left is chipped where its supposed to be rounded. This phone is ugly. And so far it's $40 a trip to the apple store for me... I didn't wait in line for a scratch and dent model iphone. Nor did I pay scratch and dent prices. This iphone should cost me the price of the phone and that's it. It should just work the first time I get it. Not $400 later and ten trips to apple store. Sorry guys but if they don't fix it I will have to join the "darkside".

Had been to the apple store and explained everything. He was telling me that no one else had got the same problem. But then I showed all the msgs here and the pic which "Hazaa42" has uploaded. He replaced the phone in 2 mins. Got a new one. Seems to be fine as of now. Will check it though. Cheers.

How can I replicate this issue?!?

I have seen the green glow few times now. I have also encountered a line of white/color snow on the keyboard when it comes up on some apps, tried to take a picture but it didnt last for very long, I can't replicate either, I'm just worried that is going to get worse after the warrantee is over.

Has anyone other than iKonik been able to replicate this issue?

On lockscreen. Use your palm to push upwards. Don't push hard. About the same amount of pressure as an unlock. It will do it almost every time.

It works best if you leave the screen off for a while, in my experience, it only appears while the screen is 'warming up'

Yup, same problem here... but I only see it if the phone hasn't been woken up for a while (cold screen). It does fade away within a couple of seconds though.  Also, it really shows up best if you have a dark or black background.

I too am in the UK, wondering if we all have a dodgy batch?

    I'm in Australia.

It is interesting we all are noticing the issue around the same time.

I too am wondering if its a batch issue. I called a friend who got an iPhone the same day as me and had noticed not problems at all.

I am just hoping the Genius Bar member is cooperative.

Update: just went to apple and reviews in store replacement. Details of cases were extensive notes by genius member. :)

I have had this green glow issue with my Iphone 5 also since day one I noticed this and thought it is livable and no Biggie. Then I also noticed last night their is some escaping light from just under my sleep/swake button does anyone else have this issue?

Also capturing the screen is difficult as glow vanishing too fast and not easy to repeat the glow after x3 attempts.

Now here is another new issue I am having the screen darkens as if the broghtness was really low and done screen print and on the screen capture it appears as if the screen had not dimmed down?

anyone experiening this new randome creen darkening phenomenon?

Update: It seems as though the green glow is more pronounced when you wake it after the phone has been kept warm (i.e. in your pocket, near your body), as opposed to cool (i.e. on a desk).

I can second this, for a while it looked my my dads new iPhone didn't have this issue, until I warmed it up in my pocket and the 'green flash' appeared bright as ever...

Also, I asked at my local Apple Store, they still don't have any official protocol from Apple for this issue so they're most likely to just call it a hardware issue and replace the phone. I was told, however, that it could also be fixed by a software update. Not to get your hopes up, I'm still waiting for an official statement from Apple.

Hopefully there might be some statement especially now that this thread has been picked up in various tech news sites now.

I have the exact same snow issue on the keyboard. Very random though. Most repeatable when entering AppleID password in app store.

I too have the green haze and the palm swipe did replicate it. Is this worth going to the store to get a new one?

Also, I have Apple Care+ for my phone. I wouldn't have to pay to get a new one, would I?
