i'm curious is there any device that does not have this green light issue?  enyone??

I can't get it to happen on my dads phone, but he uses a screen cover and a case. I'm not sure if that's insulating it in some way? If it is, id rather put up with the glow than use one of those horrible bubbly plasticy screen covers...

I think it's a design issue with the incell tech and the metal body regarding grounding static. Those that's don't see it most likely have cases and screen film applied. I did some testing with a Zagg HD and when it's on, it's really hard to get the green to show with a palm test. Pulling it off though (and creating static) makes a green flash. Someone else mentioned that balloons charged with static would do the same thing.

Your average person with the screen filmed and the metal back otterboxed and whatever else would likely never even see the effect.

Perhaps because we are all dressing more warmly in clothes that generate more static and are running heaters in the house (that dry the air and make it more static prone) the effect is becoming more obvious?

Just some guessing. Anyone else think the same or have a phone totally free of the effect?

My phone has never shown any green glow, and I don't have any form of protection around it.

i have had the same issue, just not so extrem like some of you. I called apple care today, they recommended to restore the iphone 5 before really replacing it. So i did, but the green glow was still there. So now tommorow or friday im getting a new one, hopefully its flawless.

I disagree becuase I had an iPhone 5 with green glow but the replacement is completely free of this issue.

Mine is Production week 46 (November) and has the issue.. what's yours ?

  • tomyiiii Level 1 (35 points)

Week 44 but I think mine was inspected by AppleCare first becuase it's a replacement unit.

I have three iphone 5's that do not exhibit this issue.

I was one of the early reporters of this issue on one of my three, but the replacement they sent does not have the issue.

If you have light leakage, I would recommend requesting a replacement.

My iPhone 5 was manufactured on W52 and had this green glow.

    - very visible after he was placed within a socket (static electricity?) and in my pocket (temperature?).

    - this disappeared on evenings : as the phone was just lay down on my desk once at home ...

    - I installed a plastic film protector on the screen (Bodyguardz) a week ago : since then, I never saw the green glow again !

I'm really thinking about something linked to static electricity ...

I don't know how true this is but if you have the green glow ya last 3 letters of your s/n should be TWD

  • Lozthorpe95 Level 1 (0 points)

just checked my serial number and it ends with TWD, so you might just be right.

All 3 of my iPhone 5s which have all had the green glow, all end in 39C... I'm in the UK.
