Q: Green glow on iPhone 5 unlock screen?

I've had my iPhone 5 for a few days now and I've noticed this issue more and more. Whenever I wake my iPhone there is a split second where a green glow around the edge of the screen is visible. It's a bit like light leakage but its green and only appears for a fraction of a second after you turn on the screen. It is also sometimes activated by using the slide to unlock, which makes it glow brighter.

Does anyone else have this happening with their new iPhone? I don't know if this is the start of a defect or not... I have had very rare graphical flickering and tearing of the keyboard UI, but that's only happened once or twice and only for a second, as soon as I started typing it went away.

It looks like this might turn into a trip to the Apple store, I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this weird phenomenon on their new iPhones.

I don't use any screen protector. What brightness should I set my screen to?

I tried what you said, but I don't notice anything. I'm usually picky to these kind of things (I had an iPhone 4 which had the occasional scanlines which drove me nuts).

Set it all the way up to max and run the palm of your hand from bottom to top in quick succession, like your clearing off smudges. If you dont see a green glow then I guess you're fine! May I ask, when did you buy your iPhone? Was it at launch day or quite recently?

II've just received confirmation of an Apple employee that every iPhone is effected by this problem and the ones they produce today are still defect because they haven't figured out a way to solve this issue!

So I guess keep it won't change anything anyway and u can save your time

I have changed mine twice and seem to have got one where the problem appears very little and just under certain circumstances but its still there.

Actually I have another white iPhone5 there's no green glow problem. everything is perfect. And i worked for apple before. In my experience it's a hardware problem. So don't know what will hapeen after half year or one year. I suggest just waste time and go change.

I received my iPhone 5 64GB black yesterday. It has also the green glow on the bottom of the screen.

I can reproduce it with the case for the phone. The case has a microfiber material inside. When I pull the phone out of the case and move it in back again a number of times it has the green glow. I can reproduce it every time. So I think also it is a static problem.

The rest of the phone is ok. No scratch, no other problems. So, I doesn't want to change it, because I know what the problem is.

I don't know why some phones haven't the green glow. Maybe, the electricity ground of the screen is better than other one. This avowed why a screen protector reduce the green glow. The screen can not electrically charged by the case, clothes or by your hand.

So has anyone actually mananged to get a replacement that DOESN'T have the green glow? I replaced my first one for it, it seemed to get better, but ended up going through 3 more replacements for other reasons (broken volume button, dent on the phone, dead pixel) so I'm wondering if it's worth giving one last shot to try and get another replacement?

The one I'm using right now is the replacement number 7, I strongly recommend to you to ring them and arrange another replacement, as long as it's covered by AppleCare you are entitled to.

    Good luck.

Is it glow- free? I have no problem going in asking for another replacement haha. But after 7 replacements, have you finally found one that doesn't have this problem?

They all have this problem. It's a design flaw not a defect. Put a screen protector on to make the effect go away and stop wasting your time.

Not sure what you mean by "acknowledged" but if it means than that they have been called and notified and agreed to replace my handset (I've kept all the receipts, emails confirming, logging and following up my query, many many receipts of deliveries and collections, etc.) rather than me nicking them from the back of a parked van or stuffing them down my trousers from a warehouse shelf, yes, I guess they have been pretty aknoledged by Apple, yes.
