Q: Green glow on iPhone 5 unlock screen?

I've had my iPhone 5 for a few days now and I've noticed this issue more and more. Whenever I wake my iPhone there is a split second where a green glow around the edge of the screen is visible. It's a bit like light leakage but its green and only appears for a fraction of a second after you turn on the screen. It is also sometimes activated by using the slide to unlock, which makes it glow brighter.

Does anyone else have this happening with their new iPhone? I don't know if this is the start of a defect or not... I have had very rare graphical flickering and tearing of the keyboard UI, but that's only happened once or twice and only for a second, as soon as I started typing it went away.

It looks like this might turn into a trip to the Apple store, I just wanted to know if anyone else has noticed this weird phenomenon on their new iPhones.

I ordered two phones and got them both on launch day. One is a 64GB and the other 16GB. both display the glitches in the display, especially on the password entry keyboard (see image). not saying it is, but it looks a little like interference or something as it moves along the screen. the green glow on mine is now worse than it was and also when i phone on a call the ear speaker sounds like it's constantly stuck in loud speaker mode, but really quiet. I also still have the camera flash issue. Basically this phone is riddled with issues and I can't get an iphone appointment with a genius for over a week here in London.

The keyboard glitch has been confirmed by Apple to be a software problem, and an updated version of iOS is already being tested, and should be available soon.

If the green glow "problem" is related to that, you may find it goes away on its own soon.

ahh, ok. thanks, i missed that. i am now also having a new problem in that the sensor that detects the phone is at my face seems to stop working and the phone will mute or turn on the speaker while i'm holding it to my face. time to swap this handset i think...

Same problem for me, green glow at the bottom, spreading to the left & right sides.

The glow's gone with 6.0.1. In my case. What about you?

I haven't updated yet, but if that is really the case then it's good news.

Guess you were lucky! Mine's still glowing even after the update... It might not be as bad though, I'll need to test it further. Try wiping the whole palm of your hand over the unlock screen, that tends to make it glow the most. The more of the screen you touch at once the brighter the glow.

Mine's glowing then, too, but that's way beyond "normal usage", isn't it. I mean, before

the update wiping the unlock slide normally with one finger would make it glow, an that's

    not the case anymore.

same here.... it's still there...  the palm swipe brings it out just the same as before - especially if the phone is warm AND has been asleep.

I never knew iPhone 5 was being used by Planet of the Apes too.

Whe uses their palm other than advanced chimpanzees.

Surely normal one finger swipe shud suffice and the green glow is no biggie.

Those with Palm swipe issues shud try try turning your phones the other way upside down then palm swipe problem solved.

don't be such a muppet, it's just a way to reproduce the green glow / bleed.

True, for me it's the difference between bringing it in to be replaced and keeping it. You're right the issue does seem to have lessened somewhat, which surprises me since I didn't think this was an issue that could be fixed by software...

You're right. It's not completely gone.

But that the update made it bettet proves

    it's a software issue, right?

    So let's wait for 6.1...

I've just discovered something new, it doesn't need skin contact to create the green glow. I've just noticed it happening while taking it out of my leather sleeve case. The case doesn't have any electrical charge so it doesn't interact with the screen at all, but it still makes the screen glow... Makes this seem allot more like a hardware problem than software. Also, since the update, my screen is now as bad as it was before. I've just gotten used to it...

I've got the green glow around the bottom of the screen every time I turn it on. it glows from the bottom to around the slider and camera icon area. I updated to 6.0.1 and it is no different. I've also seen the screen glitch when prompted for my apple account password. Mine was much worse than the image shown earlier in this thread, my keyboard was unreadable when it happened. Looked like an old TV with static on the screen.

I may call apple store and see what they say. my phone is only 4 days old, I don't want a used replacement. I would prefer a new one.
