Q: iTunes without a credit card - get album info

I have tried numerous ways to "login" to iTunes to get album info for CDs I'm adding to my library.  I have an Apple ID, however, no matter what way I've tried I'm always asked to enter CC info.  I am NOT about to enter that info to just get album info!

I have tried the icloud thing - no good

I have tried to create a new itunes account - no good

I have look for alternatives on the forums - nothing so far

The message I get is, "Getting album artwork requires you to have an iTunes Store account. Please go to the iTunes Store and sign in or create a new account."

Is there a way to get album info without a credit card - it seems stupid to force people to enter this info when all they want it the titles of tracks they already own.  Another FAIL Apple.

FYI the albums are not obscure or anything: Godsmack, Matrix Reloaded, U2 Rattle and Hum, etc.

iTunes, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

Get a free app following the instructions here:

    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2534

That's the only way to create an iTunes Store account without entering in some sort of payment method. Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is  critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.

You will of course not be able to get anything other than free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.) but you will be able to get album art.

    Regards.

Really?  Since you do not have a valid account I presume you obtained these tracks some other way and did not buy them from the iTunes Store.  While it is nice to receive things for free such as the iTunes application itself, I do not expect Apple to provide a music labeling service for free.   Annoying as it may be, if it is a "perk" for a potential customer who has a demonstrated ability to pay and has gone so far as to be only a mouse click or two from a small profit on the books then so be it.

Wow Limnos you may be willing to pay for a free service, BUT I'm not.

iTunes info is provided by GraceNote and is NOT some product of Apple.  GraceNote get's its info in turn from people voletering to provide the info -  for FREE.

Besides I bought a Mac.  The music program it came with was iTunes.  I would think that as a paying customer of an registerd and licensed Apple product/softwere that some basic service would come with it, like not having to type in EVERY single track I own.  I've payed for the CD's I'm putting on my player and until recently the iTunes player DID provide the info automaticaly from GraceNote.  This is just a gimik to get people to buy from them insted of buying tangable products or from Amazon.

I've never just given my CC info to any company to store for the privilage of MAYBE geting something in return.  It is a bad policy.

VarJak Paw, Thank you for actualy trying to help me. I'll try this again and see what happens.

Gracenote provides only track and album name info, not album art. I've never had an issue with getting information from Gracenote without an iTunes Store account. Artwork, however, does require an account if you want to get it from the iTunes Store. But there are many other places where you can get album art, and utilities that can help you get it.

    Regards.

Gracenote provides the identification when you insert a CD.  If you were talking about getting that information when inserting a CD then that wasn't clear because you only just now mentioned seeing this before when you inserted a CD.  It has nothing to do with iTunes accounts.   I don't have an iTunes account and my iTunes brings up labels when I insert a CD. You select it as an option in preferences settings for iTunes.

If you're talking about ripping an unidentified CD and then later identifying it using iTunes Store's database, that is not the same service.

If you buy a Windows computer you get iTunes too.
