Again, you're missing the solution. Select the photos you want to resize and use the File ➙ Export ➙ Export X Photos... menu option.
In the next window check the two checkboxes indicated, select Custom Size and put in the maximum pixel dimension you want.
Photos will export the files to the location of your choice. It's that simple.
Engineers aren't here.
That's cropping a Photo. You want to resize a file.
That's not the same thing. Until you learn that, you're going to have problems with iPhoto.
The illustration I use is as follows: In my iTunes Library I have a file called 'Let_it_Be_The_Beatles.mp3'. So what is that, exactly? It's not the song. The Beatles never wrote an mp3. They wrote a tune and lyrics. They recorded it and a copy of that recording is stored in the mp3 file. So the file is just a container for the recording. That container is designed in a specific way attuned to the characteristics and requirements of the data. Hence, mp3.
Similarly, that Jpeg is not your photo, it's a container designed to hold that kind of data. iPhoto is all about the data and not about the container. So, regardless of where you choose to store the file, iPhoto will manage the photo, edit the photo, add metadata to the Photo but never touch the file. If you choose to export - unless you specifically choose to export the original - iPhoto will export the Photo into a new container - a new file containing the photo.
So, files only come into play when you export, that's why that option is in the export panel.
The picture should stay in iPhoto with all its data.
This is for the site of photographers.
In iPhoto can send to mail or Facebook or Flickr.
But is not possible to reduce and maintain the folder.
Why are simply no such option in iPhoto?
The picture shouldstayiniPhotowith allits data.
It does. You're not asking about Pictures, you're asking about files.
This is forthe site ofphotographers.
No, this is the site for questions about iPhoto.
IniPhotocan send tomail orFacebook orFlickr.
Correct.
Butis not possibleto reduceandmaintainthe folder.
It is perfectly possible to export to a new file at the new size. Why on earth would you want to keep two copies of the same photo at different file sizes. It's just a waste of space.
Thank you
I found an old link on the subject:
action for resize
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10036481/folder-action-to-resize-images-in-le opard-10-5-8
I do not know if it fits what I need,
But maybe could add an option similar to iPhoto.
1. You must NEVER make any changes of any sort to the content of the iPhoto library so any action you take must be in files you have exported
2. Since you must export the photos to files before running your suggested(but not tested apparently) AppleScript why not just use the export options in the first place

I'm sorry but you are making no sense at all. Your question is not about and none of the answers are about sharing in any way. Your question is how to resize a photo. The answer is that the only possible way to resize a photo is to export it using the sizing options there
LN
And the answer, one more time, is very simple
the only possible way to resize a photo is to export it using the sizing options there
I'm sorry that this implement, clear answer is so difficult for you. But is is the answer
LN
Thank you
Partly, I accept your answer - in the community answers.
But that does not answer my need and a lot of people who want to upload photos to various sites and not only to the options listed.
So, because it Apple's site - I hope Apple engineers read what else should.
Until then - self improvisation.
This reply is rude and unhelpful. I guess you get to level 10 beacue of knowledge but not because of manners.
And...you're wrong.

I could not allow Larry's rude reply be the last one on this thread. Here is how you can batch resize photos:

I know this is an old post and so many OS versions ago but I hope this helps others looking for this answer.
1. That automator action refers to files in the Finder. As Larry says, you have to export from iPhoto to get them to the Finder, so why not resize when exporting?
2. Did you really need to re-open a five year old thread for an app that ceased development two years ago?
