This is only possible if you backed up your phone to iTunes and didn't use it to upgrade to IOS6.

Are you positive about that? iTunes: About iOS backups - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946 includes a list of what is backed up and doesn't make any mention of the actual system files.

I believe in reality there is no Apple approved way of reverting to an earlier iOS.

They've removed everything google, I can't use my gmail anymore ios6 won't let my blueyonder mail work either. Maps are short of useless, you can't upload media into Facebook easily and there are YouTube issues too. I can only see the blind faithful advocating such a naff ios 6 and if I can't downgrade my phone then I'll never ever get an iPhone again. I find it galling that a company Steve Jobs set up to liberate device use has now developed software that does the exact opposite. Surely it is the customer who chooses what media they want on their device and NOT the manufacturer. Steve Jobs will be turning in his grave.

share your comlains with apple feedback web page...

I have upgraded my iPad to ios 6 by mistake and i can not believe that i can not downgrade back to 5.1.1... this is unacceptable. The new ios 6 is not perfect and it removed some applications that i would like to keep. Now i got stuck with a software that i don't want. Why do you guys force your customers to use whatever YOU want. This is against my will and freedom to choose my software. I am very disappointed and just for this reason, i will never buy a new apple product ever...

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.

Anyone who invokes lies and ignorance about Steve Jobs should be banned from the ASC. You have never been abble to roll back iOS for all the years it has existed, Steve only died a year ago

Not true, the two services for which Google requires a license was removed; You Tube and Maps because Apple was not willing to agree to the access Google wanted to our personal information. My Gmail account works just fine. Your's must be configured incorrectly.

Facebook doesn't have anything to do with Google, they are two separate companies!

Dah veed, like I said the blind faithful.

Of course Facebook is different to google, you obviously can't interpret my comment, without pretending there's nothing wrong with IOS 6. All I am saying is everything worked fine until ios 6 was downloaded. My UK blueyonder mail uses google mail as it's mail server, it worked perfectly well with IOS 5. Fact, IOS 6 is full of bugs, which you would have thought would've been fixed whilst the beta version was out. Also I see no reply to the fact that Apple make app/program choices rather than allowing their customers to make that choice. If they continue with this mindset they will lose customers.

Because I point out your errors makes me blindly faithful? In a pig's eye, I am just intelligent and logical.

You hemmed FB in between two Google services, anyone would believe that you think one is part of the other.

You have always been free to select and delete your 3rd party developed iOS apps. Apple has always chosen the Apple apps that appear on iOS devices, from the very first device. And Apple decides how those apps function. The Maps and You Tube apps that are no longer available were Apple apps, not Google apps. Their use in iOS required that Apple secure a license from Google to access Google's services. That license is due to expire and Apple was not comfortable with Google's demands for another license. Google is free to submit its own proprietary versions of those services and if the apps harvesting of user info doesn't make Apple uncomfortable and fearful for its clients they would be approved and available in the iTunes App Store. Oh, wait Google has already submitted a You Tube app, as I pointed out. Google seems to not be interested in developing a Maps app according to statements from Google executives this past week.

I installed iOS 6 on my iPad 2 and iPhone 4S about 20 minutes after it went public. It functions perfectly on both of them. There are no bugs in my two weeks experience of using it. Rather than ranting, submit information to allow folks to assist you in solving your tech issues with the email. As I said my Google account(s), as well as those of family members function perfectly.

Apple isn't suffering from the descisions that Apple has taken in regard to the user experience with either its Mac or iOS platforms. Its demise has been predicted over and over, it is the largest company of its type in the world. If you are unhappy with the eco-system, select another. Go buy those products. Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

I had no idea I would loose SO MUCH while gaining so little. As someone said elsewhere, my upgrading was a matter of trust of a company I have been faithful to since its creation. Nowhere did it say that my perfectly good Gen 1 Apple TV would cease to connect to my "new" updated computer.

This is really a strike out for Apple. My iTouch sync isn't working properly, my iPad 2 sync is not working right and my older (and very expensive) PPC Mac is now out of the loop entirely as is my Apple TV that is otherwise going strong.

And by the way all this was working properly before the "update".
