iOS 6 App Store - updater for app hangs - how do I reset it?

I chose to update the "Chess With Friends" app, and something must have gone wrong. The progress bar started and after about 10% done, it stopped updating. It's been several days now and the App Store "Updates" screen shows that Chess With Friends is still trying to install itself, and the progress bar hasn't changed at all. I have a feeling that this will not correct itself, and I can't see a way to reset. Any ideas (besides the obvious, which is to uninstall the app, and then re-install it).

Double tap the Home button to view active apps at the bottom of your screen. Tap and hold one of them until they all begin to wiggle. Tap the little red circle at top left of the Apple Store and of Chess With Friends to close them.

That didn't help... I restarted the App Store app (as you suggested) and Chess with Friends was not running. Then I restarted the App Store, and the same thing happens... Chess with Friends is installing but the progress bar isn't moving at all.

Try deleting Chess With Friends from your phone and downloading it new.

Yea, I figured that will work, but I wanted to raise this issue because it seems like it's a bug in the iOS 6 App Store. Deleting and then reinstalling means that the app's data will also be deleted, which obviosly isn't ideal.

When I tried turning my phone off and then back on, it still shows "Installing" but the progress bar is now empty.
