New apple earpods with remote and mic compatibility with 3rd gen ipod shuffle

Hi, i have a 3rd gen ipod shuffle and i bought the brand new apple earpods with remote and mic ($29) and the play/pause button works but the volume controls don't. Manual says its compatible with 3rd gen ipod shuffle but the website doesnt. Is there anything i can do to get these headphones to work?

No. Are you talking about the manual that came with the EarPods?

If it says they are compatible with the 3G Shuffle, it's an error as they do NOT work with the 3G Shuffle.

Does your center button (play / pause button) works?. In my case it doesn't work either.

Could you tell us which version of firmware you have?
