How does ClamAV work with Tiger ?

I am wondering how this ClamAV works with my OSX.

I read this on Apple site:
"Also new in Mac OS X Server v10.4 is ClamAV, which scans mail messages and attachments for viruses, automatically deleting the message or quarantining it to a specified directory on the server for further analysis."

So I decided to test it.
I sent to myself from another computer an email containing an empty text file called "latestpics.tgz"
When I opened my email on my Mac nothing happened. I downloaded the file to my desktop; no problem. Double-clicked it; still no problem reported.

Then I realized something may have to be updated.
I checked for Software Update and bingo! there was this "Security Update 2006-002 (PowerPC)" (1.1)" that I installed.

Restart the Mac, reopened my email; STILL NOTHING.

What gives ?

Hi Revetwelch

I assume that you are expecting ClamXav to pick up viruses on the the name of the file, but I don't think it works like that. It looks inside the file for viruses & if there are none, it's treats it as OK.

If you want a real trial, download a test virus from http://www.eicar.org/antivirus_testfile.htm - they are all harmless, I've used them to test ClamX
