I have just changed internet provider and have a new WiFi network. I had a Time Capsule and an Airport express running on the old network  but both now are not showing in Airport Utility.  They are supposed to show up in the WiFi menu but neither does.  How can I find them again to reset the new network details?

Hi - I am assuming that you have a new wireless network name and password - to update the Extremes, you can attach a computer with the Airport Utility via ethernet to an Extreme and use manual setup to enter the new info - do this for the TC also  - update and re-power each Extreme - they should then show up on the new network - if you have problems, post back.

Bit hard as my MacBook Air does not have an ethernet port!

I just used an old MacBook to do the job.  Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the update - I was going to suggest that or a hard or factory reset which I know you wouldn't have been happy with.

Having created the new wireless network I still can't get my Time Capsule or my Airport Express to join it.

I gave both a hard reset and changed all the settings on both to reflect the new network.

The AP Express shows green light and says "successfully updated" but TC does not change

I cannot find the AP Express on ITunes however and Airport Utility cannot find TC after restarting

    what is my problem?

OK - I first have a few questions - with the Express and TC powered down, can you access the network with another wireless device such as an iPad or iPhone or your Macbook? - and do you want to set up the Apple devices wirelessly or via ethernet

  • Donald & Gillian McDonald Level 1 Level 1 (35 points)

Yes I can access with other devices, suddenly the AP Express has appeared and is now workiung but the TC still won't connect, I do want them to connect wirelessly

Good - sounds like you are getting there - we will have to do this in steps narrowing down by asking questions if you don't mind - and if if anything sounds presumptuous or obvious I apologize - first is the Express that is working connected right now via ethernet or wirelessly?

  • Donald & Gillian McDonald Level 1 Level 1 (35 points)

Yes its working wirelessly  not sure if this is important but I shut everything down restarted and suddenly Airport utility can see both devices.

    TC still not connecting however

  • CRMDVM Level 4 Level 4 (1,365 points)

OK - I am assuming that the TC has the same settings as the Express so it should work - does it have a green light?

  • Donald & Gillian McDonald Level 1 Level 1 (35 points)

No green light and now AP Express has stopped connecting despite still showing a green light.

Strange behaviour, AP shows up now in ITunes bottom RH corner under Multiple speakers but just will not connect.  We have two different wireless networks and I've tried configuring to both, AP worked briefly but TC not at all

Okay now I am really confused - I would only deal with your primary network from your IP so you only have one name and password and security type to worry about - then work with one device at a time (I would start with the TC) and make sure that it is in bridge mode and client (join) mode because you can't extend a non-Apple router wirelessly and then enter the appropriate wireless info - disconnect the etherrnet cable before you update so you don't get an error message - you should get a green light - even if you don't then power off the TC then power off the router/modem (if there is a battery make sure you remove it and replace it) - then power up the modem/router and wait for it to fully boot - and then power up the TC - if you don't get a green light and a TC that works then I am stumped and suggest you get someone who knows Apple products to come in and look at your system.

We are a small hotel.  We have recently changed internet providers

We have an ethernet connected modem/router which connects to the internet.

This modem then has a wireless network.

We then have another router/modem connected by ethernet to the primary modem.

This transmits a second "guest" wireless network, both networks are password protected

I have tried to configure both the AP Express and the TC to firstly the primary modem network, and secondly to the second network.

This used to work well with our old setup but now does not work.

The AP Express can be configured successfully, worked briefly on the primary network but now cannot be found despite showing green light.

The TC refuses to update to either network.

Do you think the problem lies in the new modem/router?

Ah Ha!!! - I knew there was something different going on as soon as you mentioned 2 networks - I had a similiar situation in my office - let me sleep on this and tomorrow I will diagram your setup and try to come up with a solution for your setup.
