"Delete Everywhere"....Seriously? I dont want to!!!

No, you don't have two copies of the picture. The picture resides in the camera roll. The albums are a collection of pointers to picures in the camera roll.

If you cant delete it from one, then why have the option to place it somewhere else.....that isn't somewhere else...and is just a "pointer"???

For an option to view the photos placed in the album only.

The same applies to photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process. If you transfer multiple albums or folders, all photos are stored in the iPhone's Photo Library. The photos in the albums or folders transferred from your computer include a pointer to the original photos stored in the Photo Library. This way you can view the photos in an album or folder only, or all photos in all albums or folders by selecting Photo Library.

The same with the Camera Roll and user created albums on the iPhone. You can view photos in a user created album only by selecting the album, or all photos in the Camera Roll by selecting Camera Roll.

This is done with photos transferred from your computer and with photos placed in user created album from the Camera Roll without duplicating the photos as in taking double the storage space. Delete a photo placed in a user created album from the Camera Roll and the photo will no longer be available in the album since the photo is not duplicated. The original is stored in the Camera Roll.

The same applies with iTunes music placed in a playlist. Delete the original from the iTunes library and the song will no longer be available in the playlist.

Plug your iPhone to PC. Copy all photos and videos from Camera Roll and place them into folders as you like. Then sync these folder through iTunes in your iPhone and delete all from Camera Roll. (So you save space from your iCloud Account.).

For me the best way is to use Dropbox to upload all your stuff from Camera Roll. After that you can move all this photos and videos to organize into folders and sync back to your iPhone. That way you 'll always have a backup of Camera Roll and easy way (no need to restore you iPhone) to restore it if somthing going wrong. Sorry for my English. Hope this help you.

1) Use you iPhone as a Digital Camera. Then use your iPhone as a potable Media Device. Thats the idea.

Yes another failure by Apple, but of course they call it a feature. Your best bet is to use a cloud service, any will do, doesn't need to be iClod, then you can sync photos and other stuff like a normal person does.

Everything works this way on the iPhone, photos, music, movies, contacts, etc. It's all or nothing. Extremely bad in my opinion.

Same frustration here. Thanks for clarifying that it's not just me not knowing how to do this.

I don't want to start using Dropbox - yet another service, another password. But I also had to remove iCloud on my PC as it conflicted with MSFT Outlook's performance, or so MSFT told me.

So, guess I have to. Any clues, things to know before I try the above steps?

Ultimately, I want folders on my iPhone and Camera roll is used as dumping ground (if it has to) until I synch next time and move into right folders, then delete from Camera roll.

In short, so my camera roll is always being cleared out and folders being added too.

Make sense?

How does one import or export photos from photostream to dropbox? I have an account> set up a folder> but don't have a desktop Dropbox folder. Clues appreciated.

UPDATE: never mind. found it. put a dropbox folder in users. Importing 3000 photos now and deleting from photo stream.

Step2 - then creating folders in pictures on computer (PC)

Step 3 - then set Synching preferences in iTunes to exactly which folders I want BACK on the phone

Step 4 - then synching.

Generally yes.

Dropbox import from Camera Roll and saves in "Camera Uploads" folder on dropbox server.

Your desktop dropbox client (dropbox.exe) downloads your photos to "Camera Uploads" folder on your PC.

Now you have to move photos to your pictures folder in order to sync them back in your iphone. (and empty your dropbox space).

For this and many other reasons, all the restrictions, I have abandond IOS and Apple and gone Android. Could not be happier. It is a superior mobile OS.

Well, to be fair, photo management in iOS leaves a lot to be desired. Camera Roll is named that way because it implies little flexibility in dynamic sorting or reordering short of exporting it to a computer and sync'ing, and that's fair. But it would be nicer if there were some way to sort photos in-camera that cleans out the Camera Roll at the same time.

Well to be fair photo and media management on IOS is horrible. It is much easier to go to a better device with a better operating system. I stuck with Apple for 3GS and did the things Apple doesn't want you to talk about then I abandoned Apple for a better phone.

We have people worried the government will take their assault weapons but they are happy to let big business prevent them from doing what they want with their phone (that they paid for).
