App store says update but already updated

The App Store on my iMac shows one update as available. I even get notifications that there is an update available. The problem is that the app it says has an update has already been updated and it says "Installed". There seems to be no way to get the App Store to remove it from the Updates page. It constantly says there is one update available. Any suggestions?

I have the same problem

I've been trying to update the daily record app (the daily record is a newspaper here in the UK

the App Store says there's an update for this app, so I try to download it, but fail. So I deleted it and tried to reinstall it but I couldn't install it

So I decided to forget about it, after finally deleting it

But the App Store icon still says there's an update

Have to agree. I currently have the problem after updating the Cookie App. Have tried the trash route for the dock alias and signing in and out. I suppose I could trash the app itself from the Applications folder and reinstall.

There has to be a glitch in the system; it happens too often to be bad practice by the users and even the Apple geniuses are inconsistent and unable to resolve it. This must be the fourth time it has happened to me

Hi everyone, i have been trying lots of different solutions to this one, and have resolved my problem.

This article linked below is related to updating apps where the updates are not showing (i know this is not the issue but was similar as it made sense that the issue may be related) http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4236

as it happened my hard drive was not showing on the privacy tab, so i thought why not add it and remove it.. added it to the list, then removed it.. launched app store and the update is no longer showing as outstanding.

This may not work for everyone but it worked for me so hope it helps anyone else that is having the same issue as me.

The Apple Support Communities are an international user to user technical support forum. As a man from Mexico, Spanish is my native tongue. I do not speak English very well, however, I do write in English with the aid of the Mac OS X spelling and grammar checks. I also live in a culture perhaps very very different from your own. When offering advice in the ASC, my comments are not meant to be anything more than helpful and certainly not to be taken as insults.

The Mac App Store (MAS) is aware of apps on connected/mounted partitions and HDDs. Is there possibly a partition or HDD, such as a backup drive, that has the older versions of the apps?

My mac is brand new, so the only update I've done so far was the OS update and iphoto that was recently available. I didn't "update all" because the iphoto was taking too long so I paused and resumed at night. I don't understand the glitch. And now it's saying there's another OS update. It's a supplemental to the last OS update, so maybe that will fix it. I'll let you know when it's done updating. This is so annoying...

I also have a simlar problem which occured after selecting a multiple update, unfortunatley i now have an outstanding update showing for i photo where the button is greyed out showing installed, i have been in contact with apple, who gave me a few suggestions including signing in and out, checking for unfinished downloads (initally there was also a red error message next to the update saying download failed) this cleared the error message but the app store still shows there is an outstanding update which is already updated.

would welcome any further suggestions

Thanks

Did exactly the folder reindexing that Richard2180uk recommended (added, then removed hdd from Privace in Spotlight) & interestingly it got rid of the +1 update icon on the App Store icon, but still showed an update available within App Store. So, I did the same thing with my Applications folder in the Privacy settings--added it, then removed it. Voila! Now App Store neither has the update icon nor does it show a mistaken update available within the store itself. Switched to my other user account & reindexed only the Applications folder & solved both problems. Thanks Richard & al.

In the past I have the same problem, the AppStore offers a OS X Update but this was already installed.

Finally the problem comes from "Spotlight" because I have a "Time Machine" Backup Disk connected and this disk was not successfully indexed. In my special case, the indexing was never successfull. This results in the problem that the AppStore finds a old availabe version of the OS X release on this drive.

Here the way how I fix the problem (using Command Line mdutil tool):

The Problem:

# mdutil -s -a

...

/Volumes/TM Backup/Backups.backupdb:

Indexing enabled.

Scan base time: 1970-01-01 01:00:01 +0100 (1376397204 seconds ago), reasoning: 'Not set'

...

# mdutil -v -E "/Volumes/TM Backup/Backups.backupdb"

/Volumes/TM Backup/Backups.backupdb:

Indexing enabled.

Scan base time: 1970-01-01 01:00:01 +0100 (1376397283 seconds ago), reasoning: 'NewIndex'

NOTE: wait some minutes after indexing has been finished

# mdutil -s -a

...

/Volumes/TM Backup/Backups.backupdb:

Indexing enabled.

...

After that the problem was gone. If I open the AppStore the already installed update is no longer visible.

Regards,

Daniel
