Make sure you are following the steps exactly as they are shown in the Apple doc -> Sprint iPhone 5: Unable to send SMS when outside the United States

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

    1. Connect your iPhone to a Wi-Fi network.
    2. Remove the non-Sprint SIM card from the device and insert the Sprint SIM card that came with your iPhone*.
    3. Wait until   "iPhone is activated" is displayed on the screen.
    4. Reinsert the non-Sprint SIM card.

    That fixed my iPhone.

Hi! I have the same case with the iphone 5, the sprint nanosim and also can't send sms. I tried following the advice of someone here to connect to a wifi then put back the sprint sim then wait for the alert that says "Iphone activated" but all i got was "Iphone not activated" then I sent an email to last Sunday (November 4, 2012) and all I got was an automated response providing links that address the FAQs.

I'm getting frustrated with this problem. Please help.

Hi Avi. I am also from India and have bought a fully paid Sprint iPhone 5 (without contract). I am not able to activate my phone for use with an Indian carrier. I keep getting "Sim not supported" message on iTunes when connecting to activate. How did you work around this? Any suggestions? Did you call Apple Customer Care to unlock the phone? Is that what I need to do?

  • tintupillai Level 1 Level 1

also, when I bought the phone they said it will be unlocked for use outside the US.. I specifically asked them regarding carrier lock and they said it was locked to Sprint in USA but outside the US I could use any carrier. I bought the phone with the sole purpose of using it in my home country(India).

I'm from the Philippines by the way. I'm using my iphone 4s now with my local sim because i bought a nanosim adaptor so i can send sms and the sprint sim is in my iphone 5. I shouldn't have bought an iphone 5 so not to have this problem right now. i thought that with ios 6.0.1. that it will resolve the issue. What more can i do???

Good evening friends we're a little desperate not to post our msn with iPhone 5 mostly caused problem in the sprint, here I bring the solution is not a problem only unlock a confusion of CDMA / GSM in the a1429 cell.

Go into settings, then you go to messages, the option finally SMS / MMS choose the option that says show subject field and character count.

Then go to the apps to send msg and write something that says matter a header and then your message msg in space and encourage successful problem solved, and remember IF APPLE MAKES QUALITY PRODUCTS

    Good luck
