Thanks for your help on this, I still have a problem... I looked in all locations to find the loops but I cant find them anywhere !!! whats happening. I thought they may be on a path from my external hard drive but i disconnected this and the loops are still in my loop browser. When i search for a loop in the finder - It dosent find it but somewhere it must be still present, as I can still drag them to the track and play them Is there any way I can completely get rid of garageband and start a complete fresh , is it possible to delete individual loops from the loopbrowser ? someone told me to highlight the loop and press delete to get rid but this dosent work ive only had my apple mac a couple of weeks and am already wishing i had never bothered !

I am really puzzled by your problem. If there are no loops, then rebuilding the loop index should remove the lot from your Loop Browser. I really hope HangTime or Christoph Drösser will chime in with some additional ideas.

One more try to find your loops:

Have you tried to use Spotlight to search for them?

  • Reveal the Loop Browser.
  • Select some Loop
  • Enter the name of the loop into the Spotlight search field.
  • This should show some loops in the dropdown list.
  • Select one of the loops and press the key-combination⌥⌘ at the same time. This will display the path to the folder containing the loop in the footer of the information panel.
  • Try to memorize the path to find the loops using the Finder.

I bet you never wish you got involved with this case!!

No problem, Stuart, I just wish I could take over your display and keyboard for a while 😝

Quit GarageBand. And if your MacOS version is later than 10.7. log off and log on again. Otherwise you cannot be sure, that garageBand really quits. Ehat is your MacOS X version, btw.?

Are you looking at the correct library?

The current GarageBand Version stores the Apple Loops in /Library/Audio/Apple Loops

To open this folder use the Finder's "GO" > Go to Folder menu, like this: Type

/Library/Audio

into the text field. Press the "Go" button.

Delete all folders with "Apple Loops" in the name and empty the trash, before launching GarageBand again.

Previous versions of GB also had "Apple Loops" folders in /Library/Application Support/GarageBand

Search this folders for loops as well.

Thanks again Leonie

Just before you replied, I completely uninstalled garageband and reinstalled it all. Im running version 10.7.5 by the way

so all re-installed, no loops in the folders you asked me to check,I even moved the empty "apple loops" folder to the trash and then emptied it. I did this the way you said but when I go to the loop browser, the loops are all still there ?!?! unbelivable but true !!!

this must be a first in the history of garageband , yes ?

I am dying to get using garageband properly and start making some music, but all I seem to be doing is trying to sort this silly problem out!!!

many thanks again

Stuart
