Rearrangement/deletion of my music folder on my Hard drive

Hey all,

1.) HOW CAN STILL USE ITUNES AND NOT HAVE THE PROGRAM REARRANGE/ DELETE MY MUSIC FOLDERS ON MY HARD DRIVE?

Like a lot of us, I have extensive music library. I recently purchased a new laptop with a ton of memory so that I can incorporate the remaining portion of my CD collection. Copied over the Music Library to the new computer and installed itunes. Unbeknownist to me, itunes rearranged my music library and deleted songs and folders as well. to what it wanted to see not how I managed it. Artist +> Album +> Tracks. At somepoint, I noticed that itunes rearranged the directory in a matter of minutes which has taken me sometime to arrange. 😠😢😟😠 I do not want the program to take one album and scattered it amongst many folders: I do not want the program to take an album change the name to unknown, I especially do not want the program to delete My music. I OWN ALL MY MUSIC in CDs, Tapes, or LPs which I thoughtfull converted then into my music folder. The question remains why does Itunes thinks it knows my music better than me. IT SHOULD NOT. My Collection, My Music, & My Choice on how I want MY music to be arranged on MY hard dirve. How can I stop Itunes from managing MY music on My hardrive?

Thanks and look forward to help before I open Itunes again.

Edit > Preferences > Advanced

Untick Keep iTunes Media folder organized

This is the default setup for a new iTunes library but you can turn it off before you import your media. If you migrate your library properly from one system to another the preference should be preserved. Once iTunes has reorganized there is no way to restore the previous arrangement of files and folders.

Unknown Album or Unknown Artist are signs of untagged or .wav files. iTunes doesn't read the filename & path for that data. Again, once lost, there is no restoring it. If you have a backup of your original media folders you can fix the reorganizing issue and I have a script called TagFromFilename that can import the metadata from the path.

If one album is scattered among many folder that suggests that the Album Artist isn't set. See Grouping tracks into albums for details. Fixing grouping issues should put albums back in a single folder (if you're letting iTunes organize things).
