Rearrangement/deletion of my music folder on my Hard drive

I have the same question. Where is the answer?

Untick Keep iTunes Media folder organized

This is the default setup for a new iTunes library but you can turn it off before you import your media. If you migrate your library properly from one system to another the preference should be preserved. Once iTunes has reorganized there is no way to restore the previous arrangement of files and folders.

Unknown Album or Unknown Artist are signs of untagged or .wav files. iTunes doesn't read the filename & path for that data. Again, once lost, there is no restoring it. If you have a backup of your original media folders you can fix the reorganizing issue and I have a script called TagFromFilename that can import the metadata from the path.

If one album is scattered among many folder that suggests that the Album Artist isn't set. See Grouping tracks into albums for details. Fixing grouping issues should put albums back in a single folder (if you're letting iTunes organize things).

It is unticked. Items were originally in order as loaded from cds but have gotten scrambled. I cannot drag items to the correct positions. Nor can I drag them to a new playlist. In another playlist for radio station streams I am able to drag and drop items. What's the difference? I'm using iTunes 10.7.0.21 on Windows 7 SP1. Thank you, Rob.

Open "Preferences"

Select "Advanced"

Uncheck the "Keep Itunes media folder organized"

Above that, make sure you change the default save location to another folder other than the one your music is in. Create a new one if you have to.

Select "Add folder to Library"

select your folder.

Tell Itunes "No" if it asks any questions.

As I stated before, I added a new playlist but can't copy items to it.

This may seem silly, but are you "Copying" or "Dragging and Dropping"? There is a difference. Also, did you make a standard playlist, or a smart playlist? Smart playlists usually wont allow items to be copied unless they meet a certian criteria that you setup initially.

It shouldn't matter and neither copy/paste nor drag/drop works. I added a New Playlist Folder, not a New Smart Playlist. Thanks for the ideas.

Playlist folders are for putting playlists and playlist folders in. You can't add tracks directly to a playlist folder.

They are already there. The problem is the order.

You can sort playlist folders on a column heading, but you can't manually order them. With playlists select the leftmost column of numbers for sorting then drag into the order you want.
