On average, how many songs should I be able to put on one of the new ipod Nanos .. most of my music is AAC and some is Mp3? I do not plan to put any videos or pictures on the ipod.

8GB or 16GB? The 8GB should be able to store around 1,000 songs.
I believe the new Nano only comes in 16GB .. So can I then expect to load as many as 2000 songs?

The "new" nano is the 7th generation, being released in October. The 6th generation came in 8GB or 16GB. But anyway, glad to help 🙂

You can fit 2000+ songs on a 16GB Nano if the songs are encoded at 128Mbps. If they are at 256, no. There is a setting in iTunes to convert all songs that are over 128Kbps to 128Kbps so that you can los more music. it will take hours to sync while doing this though.
