Same problem here.I just get a replacment 3 days ago after my first 2 month iphone 5 had few faults. And replacment phone even working worse.Battery life is just awful at night go down from 87% to 27% without doing anything. When put in charge logo was shown is charging but percentage doesn't go up.The replacment iphones from brown boxes are complete rubbish.Had same issue when replaced iphone 4s.But now fault starts after 2 months of using and "new" iphone replacement battery life is nowhere near as good as from orginal packing.Getting another appoitment to replace replaced phone because i aint having it.Cost to much money to get repleced by something wirk even worst.

All this happening with no apllication on in background.no bluetooth no notification and compare to one i've had at begging battery was working better with apps running on the background .So answer is simple the replacment iphones are cheaper replica of orginal giving you for same price.Apple scam!!'

Yeah .I know this for fact.I compared both iPhone 5 from original box and Replacment box. There is a chance some of the parts a refurbished .So you don't what you are getting when they replacing you.In original box there is so many different faults .you can't complain about it on apple website to not give them bad name. Its all done with intelligent planing. So watch out people before you buy iPhone. That is my second Replacment of Replacment as stupid as it sound and I see the difference .There is nothing to fix because diagnostic will show that it work normal( normal as it is made for it with worse battery life but you getting it for same price ) that is a trick made by apple and we paying for it bug money.

My iPhone 5 gets about the same battery life as my 4 did, which is fine. I believe people are seeing software problems - runaway processes, something draining location services, a need to restore as a new phone, stuff like that. Here is what I have:

location services on, but I limit the applications that can use it. The little icon is almost never on.

wifi on

bluetooth on

push email, but my main account is manual and fetch set to 15 minutes

various things have notifications on

brightness mid way

icloud syncs a bunch of stuff

in system services under location services, only compass calibration is on

Thanks for your reply. I also had a 3GS and 4. Usage on those two devices was far different than the 3/5 ratio you indicate for your 5, and the 4/5 ratio I am experiencing with my 5.

Additionally, both of my wife's 5's (personal and work), which are set up very similar to mine (save which Exchange server she hits) are getting a 1/10 ratio. She got 11 hours yesterday on a business trip, only dropping to low 90% range with light-moderate use. This is what I got with my 4, and Her experience is typical when compared to two other iPhone 5 owners I know.

Something is wrong. Either there is a runaway process both of us have on our 5's (I've all but ruled that out), or there is a firmware/hardware glitch on our models.

Kirk,

I am running 6.1.3. What version of the firmware are you running? A 4/5 ratio of usage/standby means that your phone is almost always doing something. Some version of the firmware had a battery usage problem with the Exchange server. Why don't you set your email to do manual so it only hits the server when you open up mail? Get system activity monitor to see if there is high CPU usage. I believe that yours is a software problem.

And my ratio is probably closer to 50-50 not 3/5. Your wife's 1/10 means she does almost nothing on the phone.

That is replaced phone I replaced it twice and start few times as new.I reset in store as well. And battery drainage on iPhone 5 Replacment phone from apple store is rubbish is complete scam.Battery life is no where near as good as in brand new phones. There so many issue with iPhone .There is nothing you can do about it because when you go store they will show you that battery is running as normal. But you will see yourself that is not.Replecment phone are much weaker with battery life than brand new phone .And you can repair this by any restet or starting as a new. Personnel working for apple get good phone so they feed you with lies. There is no place you can actually complain about it to keep apple good name.Go to apple store any and you houndeds of people coming because there is something wrong with them.

I assume you mean iOS version, not firmware. I'm on 6.1.4, the latest. I'm on manual with all email accounts. What is "system activity monitor"? An application?

My wife uses her phone as much as I do... in fact, she probably uses it as a real phone even more. A friend of mine definitely uses his iPhone more than I do, and he's getting about 1/10 to 1/5 ratio during the day. There is something going on with my device, or something weird with the software (as you mention) on my specific phone that's causing the issues.

I've attached screen shots that depict a typical dailt scenario for me. The images were taken at midday, after a full recharge before I went into work:

It indicates that I was "using" the phone for almost 3 hours during a 4.25 hour period. I was not using it for 3 hours -- perhaps had a couple of texts come in (which I did not answer), and I checked the weather application twice -- otherwise I was working. Notice that there is almost no cell data activity. Something is cycling on the machine, or the hardware is staying "on" when it shouldn't be.

I fully charged the phone today, unplugged it, reset the counters, and will not touch it for half of a day. This is at home, so it won't exactly mimic a workday, but I'll be able to get at least another datapoint.

Thanks for your insights

Kirk,

You didn't have much cell data, but you could have had lots of wifi data. Something is hitting your phone. Perhaps an app with push notifications, perhaps push email. System activity monitor is a paid app that shows your CPU usage percentage - it should be about 2-4% normally. High CPU usage kills your battery. Also I notice you have a very bad cell signal. That may be part of the problem - the radio boosts its power if the cell signal *****.

Here is what I would try, *one by one*. The problem is your 75% usage which is not really usage as you say.

Hard reboot (both buttons down until apple appears) You can combine this one with the next one.

Go to airplane mode, then turn wifi on. This will eliminate the bad cell signal as a problem if it still persists.

Change all mail to manual

Turn off notifications in a binary search manner - this means turn half the apps off, if it persists turn them back on and turn half of the others off, etc. You need to keep careful track. When the problem goes away the last group turned off has the problem app.

Minimize location services apps and see if the little arrow thing appears (means something is using it)

Troubleshooting like this is difficult and takes patience and time. But I believe you will find your answer.
