I am receiving my brothers text messages after ios 6 update.

Question

I am receiving my brothers text messages after ios 6 update.

I am running an iPhone 3gs in which I have updated to the new ios 6. As I was updating my phone, it gave me an option to check off numbers I would I guess receive text messages from and It had my brothers number in it. I mistakenly had his number checked and now I am receiving his text messages. I know there was a similar question asked in here, but I tried creating him a new apple ID and iCloud. I even went to the extent in just deactivating my iCloud and apple ID from my personal phone, but I still receiving his text messages. Please help!!

Go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive. Do you have his phone number or email address listed under "You can be reached by iMessage at"? If so, uncheck them. Further down under "Start new conversations from" make sure your phone number is checked.

I have the same problem and I'm still receiving texts from my little brother.

I did go into my settings and made sure my number was the only one checked and I'm still getting his texts with a +1.

I'm guessing my little brother just wants to read my texts so he has number checked on his pone still.

Think that's the case lol?

Would creating a new apple account for myself solve this?

Try going to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and unchecking the email address shown under "You can be reached by iMessage at" on your phone and his. Another option is to go to Settings>Messages Send & Receive on your phone, tap the Apple ID and sign out.

Did both! and just made a new apple account because I wanted my own separate account anyways.

Is there any way of knowing if he could have my number checked on his phone and see my messages even though now I no longer receive his texts? I'm in another state for school and can't grab his phone and make sure.

You can't tell on your phone, but if you signed out of your Apple ID and only your phone number is checked under "You can be reached at" your messages should be completely disconnected from his. But if he's at home, you could have your parent's check his phone for you. 🙂

They wouldn't have access to your messages and how they are being routed. All they could do is confirm that these settings will separate the two phones as I have suggested. If there's a nearby Apple store, you can make an appointment with the genius bar and stop in and see what they say.

I think you're right.

To be sure I'll call and find out through Verizon or Apple tomorrow. No need for an appointment.
