Auto brightness iOS 6 iPhone 4S

hav the same problem,,

I have the same problem on an iPhone 5 and on a 4S but the iPod Touch 4th gen works correctly

I am going to backup my phone and reset it to 'new' and see if that cures it. That way I will know if its upgrade related or not

I'll report back once I've done that

I've reset my iPhone to 'as new' and it fixed the auto brightness problem. I then restored my backup on to the iPhone and it still worked correctly.

I was able to test this using a drawer in my desk and leaving it slightly open so I could see the phone's display. It takes about 10 seconds for the brightness slider to start moving but it is definitely working now.

I've got one more at home to try tonight. If I get anything different then I will update this post again

I had the same problem so what I did was I reset my settings back to factory default and it started working again.

I have same problem too in ipad3.. How to reset "as new"?

Go in to Settings - General and scroll to the bottom

Go in to Reset and choose the top option Reset All Settings - that should be enough to sort it out.

If not then make sure you have backed up the iPad and this time choose Erase All Content And Settings (this will remove everything from your iPad, hence the need to back it up first)

Arnie, thank you for your reply.. I would like to make sure that we have same problem. The condition on my ipad is when move from dark area into light area the brightness will change so i can see the display clearly but when i move from light area into dark area the brightness didn't change. Do you have same condition with me before you set your iphone "as a new"?

And rhe additional info is after i lock my ipad and start using it again in dark area, the brightness will change to the suitable amount for dark room.. Anyone have any solution?

IT DOESNT WORK AT ALL!!! My battery works 5 hours maximum, with 5.1.1. it was even sometimes up to 8 hours.Maps is a JOKE!! No better performance. I am very disappointed, Apple!! I thought, I buy products, that are really the highest world level, but this is just a joke!! The thing like that, automatic brightness, should work properly!! It is one of the most important things in the phone. Also battery!! WHAT DO YOU DO THERE, APPLE SPECIALISTS??? I believed in Apple, that I invest my money in sth good, that I pay more and I know what for. BUT NOW I CHANGE MY OPINION, AND I WILL PROBABLY NEVER BUY IPHONE AND APPLE DEVICES AGAIN, also my other friends!!!! I had macbook 2007 white, now I have MBA 13", and what? The speakers under keys make addicional sound, because idiots did not think, speakers make vibrations, when music ins played!!

And so on...

I AM REALLY DISAPPOINTED APPLE!!!!!!

AND I AM NOT ALONE...
