passkey not responding

Only had the new ipad3 for 5 days and the passkey only responds when i tap the number key twice causing a wrong passcode error.

Is this a common fault that i can fix? Has it got a virus?

When I try to slide to unlock it takes a good few attempts.

I have an ipod touch for a few years now so I'm versed in how this should work.
