Collada import into iBooks

Well, my impressions of the Collada import into iBooks Author is rather poor. DAE files created from a variety of sources (MeshLab, Blender, 3DStudioMax ...) seem to either do nothing when importing or crash iBooks Author. And yet they all happily cross export/import the dae files to/from each other.

Common Apple, Collada is a standard, get with the program.
