Can I import HDV video from canon HV20 to iMovie 11?

When I import HDV footage from my Canon HV20, the results do not look like High Definition but more like standard definition. IMovie will not allow me to export in anything higher than 960 x 540: cannot click on 720p or 1080p.

Maybe iMovie won't allow HDV to be imported? I am truly confused. Do I need to buy some kind of converter to import from this HV20?

I can import standard def and am able to post on YouTube but what I import to iMovie thinking it's high def looks no better in iMovie or on YouTube.

I know this is an older camcorder (2007) but it seems that there should be a way to import HDV to iMovie.

Can anyone give me advice on this.
