Question: Mac OS X 10.7.5 freezing since update

Hello All,

Since updating my MacBook Pro last week to Mac OS X 10.7.5 from 10.7.4 it is constantly freezing. It seems to freeze when I am using Chrome or iTunes. I have done the Combo Update and it still freezes. Screen freezes in mid action, with any music or sounds stuck in repeat. This requires power cycle to restart. All relevant info on system below. Any suggestions (besides erasing hard drive and reinstalling all software 😝 ) appreciated.

I'm having this same problem (Mac OS X Server 10.7.5 on a 2007 Mac Pro). Screen freezes up, sometimes graphics get wacky (elements disappear, etc.), and while you can still see the cursor (at least partially), nothing responds. The machine is still working otherwise: you can SSH into it, mail and DNS still works, etc.

I have tried but it still keeps crashing. I just get a message computer has to be shutdown. Sometime I can move my mouse and that's about it and then I can't open any programs when that happens. There is a lot of crash files since 9/29/12 I will just have to keep going thru them until I find something.

This seems to be also happening without Chrome or iTunes loaded. Now with Lotus Notes and Safari. Sigh. Seems to be not application related. A system freeze also seems to be often preceeeded by the processor fan increasing speed.

Here are the specs for my iMac:

2.5GHz quad-core Intel Core i5 with 6MB on-chip shared L3 cache

4GB (two 2GB) of 1333MHz DDR3 memory

AMD Radeon HD 6750M graphics processor with 512MB of GDDR5 memory

I uninstalled Chrome because it started with that. That did not fix my issue. Looks like I will have to reimage which is not COOL at all. At least with Win 7 I can rollback updates. Can't use my computer because of a system update. They should give you a free call because their software is what broke it in the first place.

Hi Ypresis,

Just got back to my MacBook and still crashing. Here's my video info:

Intel HD Graphics 3000:

Chipset Model: Intel HD Graphics 3000

Type: GPU

Bus: Built-In

VRAM (Total): 512 MB

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x0126

Revision ID: 0x0009

Have 16 GB of aftermarket RAM but that's not causing it. I upgraded RAM a long time before this problem ever crept up. Really it's just the 10.7.5 upgrade.

Well it could be the RAM upgrade AND 10.7.5, so I guess I'm gonna give it a try and rollback to my stock RAM and see what'll happened.

I've also seen on various forums that this problem (Frozen screen, mouse still move) happened before to other people (I.e. with Snow Leopard).

Anyways, a sign from Apple would've been appreciated.
